So Katie Hobbs has now lost her only excuse for vetoing a similar law in Arizona. Is she going to sign the bill if it is brought up again?

the high court allowed the controversial Texas law, one of Gov. Greg Abbott's signature immigration policies, to take effect while the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit considers the measure's legality

So, no champagne pops.

Texas: GO GET 'EM!!!

I caught a Compost story on msn just now and came to FR to review posts.

This is where I stopped reading in disgust (first paragraph):

The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for Texas to immediately begin enforcing one of the nation’s harshest immigration laws, which opponents say would disrupt more than a century of federal control over international borders.

It’s a very clever statute.

The illegal is given a choice: go to prison for a long time and then hope for citizenship as a felon or voluntarily deport oneself and serve your sentence outside the USA.

Passed by the Texas legislature last year, SB4 criminalizes unauthorized migration at the state level, making the act of entering the U.S. outside of a port of entry — already a federal offense — into a state crime. It also creates a state felony charge for illegal reentry. 24 mins ago.

Supreme Court lets Texas detain and jail migrants under SB4 ...

What Texas’ SB4 immigration law does:

SB4 empowers Texas law enforcement officials, at the state and local levels, to stop, jail and prosecute migrants on illegal entry and reentry charges.

It also allows Texas judges to order migrants to return to Mexico as an alternative to continuing their prosecution, effectively creating a de facto state deportation system.

The Justice Department has said SB4 conflicts with federal law and the Constitution, noting that immigration enforcement, including arrests and deportations, have long been a federal responsibility. It has also argued the measure harms relations with the Mexican government, which has denounced SB4 as “anti-immigrant” and vowed to reject migrants returned by the state of Texas.

Abbott, who has positioned himself as the leading state critic of President Biden’s border policies, has portrayed SB4 as a necessary measure to discourage migrants from crossing the Rio Grande, arguing the federal government has not done enough to deter illegal immigration.

Over the past three years, Texas has mounted the most aggressive state effort yet to challenge the federal government’s power over immigration policy, busing tens of thousands of migrants to major, Democratic-led cities, assembling razor wire and buoys along stretches of the border to deter migrant crossings and filing multiple lawsuits against federal immigration programs.

So, politics has nothing to do with state’s sanctuary city laws that thwart the legal actions of ICE to catch, detain and deport illegals? Right? But Texas enforcing any law against illegal entry, now “that’s politics”. The hypocrisy stinks to high heaven.

I'm very extra confused. I thought just yesterday the USSC said they could NOT arrest illegals. Maybe they said they could not deport them?

Now I ask, what are they going to do with them when they arrest them?

I guess this is good but we now have a stupid feral judge in michigoon that says illegals have the right to carry a gun. Next they will be giving them full and better rights than citizens.

Oh, they already are.

Step two: sue the federal government for the cost of doing their job for them and for the plane fares to send these illegals home.

Texas has expended 11 billion state funds to enforce the border that this administration has plied open. I support what Texas is doing. No doubt the sanctuary jurisdictions who encouraged this mess and are now suffering from it will be primary beneficiaries of Texas’ actions, But I doubt they will be sending Abbott a Hallmark card and a check thanking him. What Abbott can’t push back across the border, he can ship north to Massachusetts to choke on their virtue signaling and where they have more geography to accommodate them than urban NY, Chicago and Denver
