A procession of prominent Republicans who wanted to guide their party away from Donald Trump in 2024 have come around to him as the former president became the party’s presumptive nominee. And many have offered virtually the same justification in grudgingly offering support: He’s at least preferable to President Biden.
“I think he’d be better than Joe Biden,” said Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. “It’s as simple as that.”
“I mean, the alternative is Biden,” said New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu.
“The choice before the American people is crystal clear: It’s Donald Trump or Joe Biden,” said Senate Minority Whip John Thune (S.D.).
Trump’s own vice president offered a very different take Friday. In declining to endorse Trump, Mike Pence made a major statement that undercut other Trump-skeptical Republicans who have suggested through their actions that there is no alternative. His decision could also provide a permission structure for others whose endorsements are up in the air, like Nikki Haley, to hold off.
“It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” Pence said told Fox News on Friday.
But it did come as something of a surprise. Pence, after all, had raised his hand at an August debate when he and the other GOP presidential candidates were asked whether they would support even a criminally convicted Trump if he were nominated.

The left could tolerate a president Pence. He is a squish and they could manipulate him to doing their evil marxist work.
Resume enhancer for Trump
Most people in the Trump camp acknowledge that the man was a poor judge of character - that he elevated and allied with numerous people (e.g., Pence) and/or appointed them to positions of power and prominence although they, ultimately, were not worthy (with many of them actually turning on / against him later).
I choose to believe that President Trump was probably a better judge of character than most people - but that the D.C. swamp often forced him to choose the proverbial "lesser of two evils." Further, the Deep State was constantly at odds with him, undermining him and suborning his subordinates.
Look forward to voting for him again (for the third time) this November.
Regards,
The magnitude of Pence refusing to endorse trump is what? SQUAT.
That would be like expecting Benedict Arnold to endorse George Washington. Who writes this nonsense?
Nobody even knows who this clown is outside of political junkies.
7/10 people asked wouldn’t be able to name Trump’s VP. Even fewer will care once his shiny, new VP is announced.
Otherwise he would understand that Trump is, despite any flaws, the only weapon we have.
Pence is in no man’s land.
The left hates him.
Our side hates him.
He would be a perfect candidate for a new third party—the Quislings.
“We are sociopaths—and we will stab you in the back.”
Pence is not a stupid man.
He knows.
He is in on it.
Proving many of these Republicans are “business as usual” tyrants. They have no intent of being servant leaders and abiding by their oath. They’re there for power just like the democrats but in a different way of getting there.
Did anyone really expect Pence to endorse Trump now, considering the Vice President”s current positions? I certainly did not. How much influence would a Mike Pence endorsement even carry? Probably not much.
Mike is most likely, now “retired” from elective politics.
He is a Statesman, ready to write more books and give more speachess and pop up on CNN or PBS.
This recalls to mind Trump’s speech circa 2:30am upon being called the winner of the 2016 election. He mentioned everyone but Pence. I thought right then, Pence & wife will never forgive the snub. Two holier-than-thou RINOs who had accepted a crap sandwich, running with such an unregenerate sinner. Fortunately, Pence on his own cannot pull dogcatcher votes.
This year, Trump doesn’t need to wear a Pence like an armband. It turned out he didn’t need it then.
The bastards never give up. Trump is the only one around that can put a dent in the establishment.
Headline “The Magnitude of Pence”
could have also been phrased:
“The Audacity of Pence” or the Sheer Gall!
Where’s the magnitude of influence he supposedly has if he never made it out of single digit poll numbers? At least that’s what I recall; I haven’t found his highest poll number yet.
Magnitude and Pence do not belong in the same sentence.
Pence was a trojan horse. He was not selected except in the sense of the least of the evil minders Trump was allowed to choose from.
The magnitude of anything Pence does is so small as to require scientific notation in order to approach its nothingness. Goes for the WaPo and MSN also. No one gives a shi....er...gives a Dorkbama about anything they say.
Pence will be remembered as a Judas Iscariat - a betrayer of his master. The task which history upon him to perform was simply to take to a couple of weeks to validate the electoral votes and the bastard didn’t posses the loyalty and the guts to do it. He is a disgraceful human being in my book.
