inevitable without moral conscience.
There are no American Corporations, Corporations have no allegiance to any country. To them, nations and peoples are an outdated concept.
“We have the best government money can buy.” - Mark Twain.....................
In the U.S., “capitalism” has effectively functioned predominantly as a form of corporate/government fascism since the establishment of the railroads in the 19th century.
Bingo! You nailed it! Great post.
The practice of bribery has become institutionalized.
How else do you explain the forever war class? People making bombs give them money in trade for blowing shit up.
Then you have the insider trader class. That’s pre-laundered bribery.

Yep! With the Federal government “land grants” for the Transcontinental Railroad, government and “Big Business” became partners. This happened long ago in US History and it’s surprising that people didn’t see -even then- that there is really no “free market” without political considerations coming into play. In fact, as you go back in time the subject we know as “economics” was largely referred to as “political economy”. It was simply assumed that politics and economics went hand in hand.
The premise of the author ignores past eras in America when the personal corporate giants - like Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Rockefeller and Ford, were the leading economic engines of the country.
We are nowhere near coming to terms with the implications of this. It goes way beyond and fully transcends the old debates between capitalism and socialism. Indeed that is not what this is about. The focus on that might be theoretically interesting but it has little or no relevance to the current reality in which public and private have fully merged and intruded into every aspect of our lives, and with fully predictable results: economic decline for the many and riches for the few.
Lack of a powerful State and co-optation of the GOP by libertarians.
Capitalism is an economic system, not a system of government. Without strong regulation, the State is co-opted, the strong prey on the weak, and eventually you have societal collapse - just look around you.
The Declaration says the People have the right to change their form of government to whatever one secures their Safety and Happiness.
Are you safe? Are you happy?
THE FED
A powerful State, currently destroying capitalism, is the fault of NOT having a powerful State... because of free market capitalists (libertarians)?
Are you sure you thought that one through?
“It goes way beyond and fully transcends the old debates between capitalism and socialism.”
This is an important point and perspective. The debate is always “if you are not for capitalism then you are a socialist”. But corporatism is lumped in as a form of capitalism and it is not at all, it is actually fascist and anti-capitalism. It is an ignorant stance to defend corporatism as capitalism. They are completely polar opposites and the debate about these two has nothing to do with the concept of socialism.
Corporatism is BlackRock, MS, State Street, and other corporations who have the power to enslave and rule the world through financial extortion and debt.
It has mutated into Crony Capitalism/Socialism like in Germany during the 1930’s.
“Are you sure you thought that thing through?”
Yup.
I paid LP dues for years. I voted for Ed Clark in 1980. Libertarianism, the NAP, and finance capitalism has no answer to Bolshevist revolution, so that’s what we are getting.
The streets need to be swept clean, and that won’t happen under a system that appeals to college boys with IQs >110 and dopers.
Lenin and the Bolsheviks were never about the little man or communist ideology, it was strictly about gaining and exercising Power and Tyranny, along with killing everyone who opposed you.
That’s very Mussolini of you...
Thanks for the reply. No need to comment further.
“ That’s very Mussolini of you...”
Call it whatever you like.
Abraham Lincoln.
To be fair, it really started with Alexander Hamilton and his philosophy that government policy should reflect the best interests of business, but Lincoln is the guy who actually turned the government into a corporate enterprise.
He worked for the Railroad Corporations (among others) as you know.
