You’d think Boeing’s already miserable 2024 couldn’t get any worse. But on Monday, a 787 Dreamliner plunged suddenly mid-flight, injuring dozens of passengers, after a pilot said he temporarily lost control of the aircraft.
The pilot was able to recover and land the plane safely, but it’s not yet clear what caused the LATAM flight from Australia to New Zealand to fall so dramatically. LATAM called it a “technical event.”
The company’s nonstop streak of bad news began the first weekend of the year, when part of an Alaska Airlines 737 Max blew off the side of the plane just after takeoff. A preliminary federal investigation revealed that Boeing probably did not put the bolts in the so-called door plug that are designed to prevent the part from blowing off the plane.
In February, pilots on a United Airlines 737 Max reported that the flight controls jammed as the plane landed in Newark. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Two weeks ago, the Federal Aviation Administration flagged safety issues with the de-icing equipment on 737 Max and 787 Dreamliner models that could cause engines to lose thrust.
Then, last week, Boeing got more bad news: The NTSB said Boeing has not yet provided the company’s records documenting the steps taken on the assembly line for the door plug replacement on the Alaska Airlines jet. Boeing’s reason: Those records don’t actually exist…

Wasn’t the reason for this happening because the two pilots fell asleep “at the wheel” and the plane began to dive?
If so, how is it Boeings fault?
And it’s all being done quite deliberately.

Airbus already pretty much has done that. Boeing did this to itself through crap management and bowing at the ESG throne.
BA was $260/share at the start of the year and now is down to $200. You do not let that happen and keep your job at the C level of public companies. A few big investors pull out and heads will roll, but major change in culture is needed to restore Boeing to what it was.
Oh good! Now they can kill Chinese civilians
Bad management. DEI initiatives. Being run by accountants and MBAs instead of engineers.
Boeing loads of Haitians...
Hanlon's razor:Never attribute to malice (or conspiracy) that which is adequately explained by stupidity, incompetence, or DEI.
Accountants and MBA’s aren’t the source of DEI. DEI seeps in through HR departments and legal.
DEI = DIE
You are reasonably postulating that hiring based upon Wokeism, of quotas over the best of ability and character, can be related to decline in the ability and character of a company. It does boast,
Boeing was recognized with a 100% rating and the designation of “2022 Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality” for taking steps to ensure greater equity for LGBTQIA+ teammates
Alan Mulalley had left Boeing and Ford in great shape when he left. Damn shame...
Boeing started out making BOATS.
Elon has talked about building planes. he says what he has learned from building cars spaceships and starlink would make his planes world-beaters.
However, he doesn’t have the time. He just has too much on his plate.
Its a deep question as to whether he can hire the staff to run his companies without his direct supervision. It didn’t appear to be the case 4-6 years ago when he made the comment
Things started with the merger with McDonnell Douglas.

In a clash of corporate cultures, where Boeing’s engineers and McDonnell Douglas’s bean-counters went head-to-head, the smaller company won out. The result was a move away from expensive, ground-breaking engineering and toward what some called a more cut-throat culture, devoted to keeping costs down and favoring upgrading older models at the expense of wholesale innovation. Only now, with the 737 indefinitely grounded, are we beginning to see the scale of its effects
“”Bad management. DEI initiatives. Being run by accountants and MBAs instead of engineers.””
I believe the above statement is a huuuuge part of the present issues.
One other contributing factor is Boeing’s bottom line. NASA used to issue Cost Plus contracts. If Boeing bid $2 billion and received a Cost Plus contract, they could just keep on billing for any cost overruns. NASA no longer issues Cost Plus contracts. Boeing is building a space capsule for NASA, but no ability to just keep billing and receiving $$$. They actually repeated the insanity that caused the Apollo 1 fire. After basically finishing the capsule, the ‘discovered’ some of the wiring material was flammable.
?!?!?!?!?
Another example of the insanity of Cost Plus contracts. The James Webb space telescope is wonderful. That said, the spending increased from $2 billion to $10 billion. NASA’s planetary exploration budget is now greatly diminished.

Whoever is doing the sabotage is also targeting United.
There was a period separating those statements. Three different things.
