Trump’s former physician and GOP ally is now a retired captain, not an admiral
Ronny Jackson, the former White House physician turned GOP congressman, regularly touts his military bona fides.
“As a retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral with nearly three decades of military service I understand the commitment and sacrifices made by servicemen and servicewomen to serve our country,” the two-term representative from Texas says on his congressional website in a message posted to a page listing his work on veterans issues.
But Jackson is no longer a retired admiral. The Navy demoted him in July 2022 following a damaging Pentagon inspector general’s report that substantiated allegations about his inappropriate behavior as a White House physician, a previously unreported decision confirmed by a current defense official and a former U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive personnel move.
Jackson is now a retired Navy captain, those people said — a demotion that carries a significant financial burden in addition to the social stigma of stripped rank in military circles.
Despite the demotion, Jackson has continued to refer to himself as a retired rear admiral, including in statements released since the Navy reclassified him as a retired captain. Former president Donald Trump and other Republicans have also continued to publicly describe Jackson using his former rank; it’s unclear if they were aware of his demotion.

That would be honorably, not admirably. Oy…
I didn’t know they could demote you after you left the service.
They can if they classify you as an enemy of the state, apparently.
RDML Jackson did not get “drunk” and wreck “a government vehicle.”
Furthermore, if Jackson were drunk in his hotel room how could he not have been found? If they found him in his hotel room, drunk, I would maintain he was available, perhaps not in the best shape but available. This whole deal, Reno’s snivel not withstanding, is democrap underhanded BS.
A Navy Captain would be the same rank as a full bird Colonel in the Army.
That is exactly it.
Is post #25 above incorrect?
If I read correctly, the report says the drunk driving accident was false. He was demoted (and dropped by Trump) for his behavior if my reading is correct.
How is this anti Trump ?
Usual FR suspects.
Interesting, isn’t it?
Ronny Jackson was they personal physician for Donald Trump (and Barack Obama) was against the COVID lockdowns, and was nominated to head up the VA by Trump, and was smeared by the Left to damage Trump.
That is how.
Yep. Still at it, too.
Hats off for doing what should have been done.
yep
political demotion
LEFTISTS are nothing if not petty
article was pretty vague on reasons for demotion
This is BS FRom the get-go!
The Washington CopmPost is a LIEberal rag!
LIEberal rags LIE!
The ComPost LIES!
WHY ARE YOU HERE? This is a site for conservatives.
Smeared? An investigation was done and he was found to have been negligent enough to warrant action. It wasn’t even divulged to the public.
Backing Trump doesn’t give someone a pass.
And you're honest enough I presume to recognize that Trump is a moderate, not a conservative, right?
The left believes in smearing at a high volume level and throwing as much against a wall as they can.
If something sticks, that's great, but if not, they can claim things like "He is corrupt and a shocking lawbreaker. There are 91 separate felony counts against him. He could face up to 700 years in prison. Where there is smoke, there is fire."
Which is exactly what they did in Trump's case. And what they did to Jackson as well.
This could have come out of the mouth of Jon Tester, Democrat who led the smear:
"Well, first we said we didn't want him as the head of the VA, because he doesn't have the right administrative experience. But that didn't seem to deter Trump, or diminish the chances of him getting approved. We can't let that happen because it would be a victory for Trump.
So, first, we will accuse him of unprofessional conduct in being too free with prescription drugs such as Ambien to help people sleep, and Prevagen, meant to keep them awake.
Then, we will accuse him of being drunk and wrecking a Navy vehicle and being unable to perform his duties.
If that doesn't work, we will get people who under cover of anonymity (to protect them from retaliation, of course) who will say Jackson was unprofessional, tyrannical, sexist, you name it. Something is BOUND to stick."
Which is precisely what they did to Jackson. And Trump.
LOL. A conservative all in on the smear by the Washington Post. That’s a laugh.
