It’s a good question. To your second point I totally agree. Men’s ambition almost always seems to get in the way of common sense. By the time they realize it (if they ever do), it’s too late.
Grew up on Terminator 2, never thought it’d be a reality. Swarms of killer drones patrolling the battlefield isn’t the future, it’s now. Enhanced with AI (doesn’t sound complicated at this point), basically a launch and forget feature and counter actions, probably drives warfare for the rest of the century... well, and nukes.
