Daniel Patrick Moynihan on going “beyond the melting pot”
PBS ^

In 1963, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and sociologist Nathan Glazer published their book, “Beyond the Melting Pot,” which transformed how ethnicity was viewed in America, from a homogenized country to one of jostling ethnic groups.

Ethnicity is irrelevant...anyone can be an American if they want to embrace American ideals...American ideals are not based on race or ethnicity, or any other immutable characteristic, but on the dignity of a free people.

Moynihan is one of the few Democrats I liked and respected. He was my Senator and once did a big favor for me in resolving an interstate issue. I remember his office staff as being very bright people. My Republican Senator at the time was D’Amato who was corrupt and totally worthless.

Moynihan was super smart compared to politicians today.

Yeah I doubt he could run as a Dem today. He was more of a classical liberal and wouldn’t have put up with the woke nonsense of today’s Dems.

For a time it was “melting pot“

Then it turned into “marble cake“

Now it’s a layer cake.

Moynihan was also the first to come forward and say that welfare was destroying the black family. He presented an academic study proving his point. It was unheard of for a Dem to say something like that but Moynihan was so respected he was able to get away with it.

I’ll always remember Moynihan fondly. His staff was excellent and resolved a complex problem for me within days and would follow up with phones calls to make sure things were set right. I was treated like I was a big donor even though I was just a nobody.

Oh yes, a non-Christian nation of various tribes fighting over resources and constantly claiming racism! is so much better than white, Christian peak America in the 1950s...

The new religion of “diversity” is so awesome! So enriching! Thanks a ton LBJ / Ted Kennedy and neoCONs!

Exactly. Jostling ethnic groups all fighting for a big piece (and it better be bigger than the other groups' piece) of the pie.

In other words, the antithesis of unity. Diversity is our strength my ass. Everyone is looking at the other as a competitor.

Yeah I doubt he could run as a Dem today.

Without the name recognition, Bill Clinton couldn't run as a Dem today.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan. The prick wanted us to keep our guns but ban ammunition,,,seriously.

As far as D’amato, I’d rather have him than the human carp Schumer who replaced him.

No he only wanted to ban “cop killer” bullets that were capable of breaching police bulletproof vests.

Camels nose under the tent.

BTW there are many bullets that pierce so called “bullet proof” vests.

The “cop killer” moniker was designed to create a narrative and your post makes it appear as you took the bait.
