By refusing the pledge, Trump made it clear that it was all about ambition and personal pride for him. That’s what candidates do - they make the astonishingly arrogant assumption that they are the best the nation can gin up to run the place.

That’s how the Left described it.

If he had said he would take the pledge, the press would
have played it up that he was conceding he was going to
lose.

We’ve talked about this for nearly 12 years now, and none
of us saw it as him being pompous about it. Talking heads
at the time thought the same thing.

As for arrogant assumption, please tell me who you think
could replace Trump, that has the gravitas to neutralize
the press like Trump does.
