Trouble is, Ukraine cannot achieve “total victory over Russia” - that which is not at all acceptable to Moscow.
Somebody at the helm in Ukraine, has to be in position to forge a cease fire and then peace.
Your "total victory over Russia" is a matter of definitions.
If you compare Ukraine's achievements to Russia's recently stated goals, Ukrainians already achieved partial victory.

But Ukraine's first and main war goal is the return of Crimea and I doubt if they will stop fighting until that is somehow achieved, perhaps long after Vlad the Invader has met his Maker in h*ll.
Zelinsky is just a glorified PR guy - the country is run by the Presidential Administration headed by Andri Yermak, a Russian by birth and a ‘former’ member of the FSB, following in his father’s KGB footsteps.
Yermak was responsible for removing the mine fields between Ukraine and Crimea, allowing the Russian 57th Army to march in unopposed.
