The Maginot Line failed because the French stopped it's construction when the came to the Ardennes Forest. They felt tanks couldn't through it. They didn't realize or care that in 1914 German cavalry came through it. In 1940 they did it again and they did it a third time in December 1944. The Frenchies just never learned.

To be fair, after 1940 they weren’t going to be building defenses against the Germans until 1946, so 1944 was hardly their fault. As much as I don’t want to give them a pass on it.
