Gun Owners of America, a conservative firearm rights group, spoke out against Texas Sen. John Cornyn's bid to replace Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell as Senate Republican leader.
"The Senate deserves a conservative pro-gun leader, and John Cornyn is not that person," Gun Owners of America Federal Affairs Director Aidan Johnston said last week in a statement posted by the group on X, formerly Twitter. "Every time a gun issue comes up, he’s right there with a compromise. And that’s not leadership. That’s just capitulation to gun control."
Johnston reiterated his group's opposition in comments to Fox News Digital on Saturday.
"In the eyes of gun owners and all those who treasure our liberties, the traitor from Texas' record makes him wholly unfit to lead Republicans in the Senate," he said.
Cornyn announced his bid to replace McConnell on Thursday.

The democrats don’t have the political guts to pass gun legislation, so they let Cornyn and the republicans do it. Then they sit back while Collins is already trying to increase the reach of the law.
If Republicans wanted someone their voters wanted they’d pick Paul, Cruz or similar.
The days of worrying about “what the Chamber of Commerce wants” are over.
I hope this guy doesn’t become the GOP leader in the Senate. Cornyn is a RINO and Uni-Party member. He trained under McConnell and will not be any help to Trump.
I know talking about other issues with gun rights organizations is useless, but if the electorate is permanently altered by massive immigration then good luck keeping your gun rights.
There are a number of Democrats that are supported by the NRA because those Democrats support gun rights in the short term. However, they don't support gun rights in the long term due to their support of mass immigration illegal and otherwise.
Uniparty = Unfunded Liabilities
The old paradigms are dead.
Cornhole is a TransRepublican. He is a DemonicRat that uses a different label. If he is named the Republican leader, then the Rats will have two leaders: Schumer and Cornhole. Thune is no different either.
I might expect that in a purple state, but not Texas!
We need proven, trusted leaders. Cornyn is none of that.
Just say no to Corn Hole
A contender for Speaker is John Thune-—SD Senator......his website on guns.
I strongly support the Second Amendment, which protects “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.” While others may disagree, I firmly believe the plain language of the Second Amendment guarantees the individual right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms.
This must include robust due process protections to guard against any policies that would suspend or curtail someone’s lawful Second Amendment right.
Firearms have long been a part of the history and culture of South Dakota. Like many South Dakotans, I have a deep respect and appreciation for firearms, hunting, and the outdoors, which was instilled in me from a young age.
Responsible use of firearms for sporting purposes and personal protection are valued components of South Dakota’s heritage, ones that support important hunting and tourism industries and protect our personal liberties.
As South Dakota’s U.S. Senator, I take seriously my responsibility to represent and protect your right to bear arms, and I remain a vigilant advocate for the Second Amendment and for protecting the rights of South Dakota gun owners.
The Left in the RP shudder to think we could have some
actual Conservatives at the helm.
Look at their record, and tell me we should give a damn
what they think.
Well you make an excellent point but you seem confused between the NRA and GOA.
The NRA hasn’t spoken a peep about Corny Corny offering up his service, not that I know of.
It’s the GOA that has done the right thing.
Corny Cornyn, that is. /Autocorrect
We need more than the Gun Owners Of America. It’s the other 48 GOP senators that need a fire lit under their asses to keep Cornyn out of the position. Will the GOP public put that pressure on the remaining 48? Thune’s a waste too.
I agree.
No one else has enough money to run against the machine.
Ditto.
No on Cornyn.
He does not deserve a promotion. He deserves to be fired.
What about the other states..?
