Republican Ted Cruz is neck and neck with his expected Democratic challenger in the race for the Texas Senate seat, according to a poll.

A University of Texas at Tyler (UTT) survey found that incumbent Cruz and Texas Representative Colin Allred, the current frontrunner to be Democratic challenger in November's Senate election, are both tied on 41 percent when potential voters are asked who they may support in the race, with 12 percent saying they are still unsure.

“So what did Cornyn do that week that lessened the extent or impact of the power outages? Cornyn is an open borders, Bush RINO, who will undermine President Trump every chance he gets.”

Cruz isn’t running against Cornyn, so I’m not sure of why you’re asking, but yes, Cruz’s voting record is FAR BETTER than Cornyn - but that doesn’t mean that Cruz is not a TOTAL IDIOT. Hell, he barely beat Beto...he’s not a strong candidate, but anti-Biden sentiment will likely carry him through the election, which is FAR BETTER than having a Democrat replace him.

Cruz has never been McConnel’s lap dog! That is all Cornyn has been. Since day one. I remember calling Cornyn’s re-election HQs when he ran for re-election the first time to have my name removed from a list of Cornyn supporters. And…I remember telling then he is EXACTLY what people were sick and tired of about POLITICIANS. I can’t stand the fool!!!!!

Absolutely! Though the article is about Cruz. The problem that I have is that he could have asked 100 FReepers as to whether flying out of a major Houston airport in the middle of the Deep Freeze was a good idea for a US Senator from Texas, and 100 FReepers (assuming no trolls) would have said: DO NOT DO IT!!!! Chances are his own staff said the same...and I suspect that his response was something like: “No one will notice”. Doesn’t make a difference for you, me, and every other legitimate Texas FReeper...but for the OTHER 90% of Republican voters - they take meaningless crap like that into account when deciding on who to vote for - otherwise Roy Moore would still be in the US Senate, for example.

“ Well, for starters, Cornyn had ENOUGH BRAINS to not take a commercial flight out of Texas when his voters were, literally, FREEZING to death.”

Trying to keep my closed off den above 60 deg (I will never have a house without a fireplace and they’d better keep the talk of getting rid of natural gas away from here) getting a glimpse of him looking like dog meat on line at the airport…

He was way behind trump in the last election. The vote was split. People stopped to vote against Cruz in the senate and for Trump in the general

For four days in February 2020, Texas froze. Most lost power. Eight to 17 degrees outside no electricity.

I have a wimpy natural gas fireplace and a gas stove/oven and a hand crank coffe grinder so I could live like a person

Cruz went to Cancun to get away from us freezing Texans.

I went to work and heard a woman- a college educated nurse- say she couldn’t believe the inside of the house got so cold. These people vote. That’s the biggest
part of why Biden could cheat his way into the White House

Absolutely agree! For us political junkies, Cruz is day versus night compared to ANY Democrat, not even close, not even in the same league. But most voters are not political junkies (although they should be, or not be allowed to vote), and thus can be swayed as they actually consider Democrats as ‘good people who think differently’.

Just think of the ads that could be used against Cruz, should the Democrats decide to contest this race, for example.

I know it’s not the right way to judge a politician, but I just could never stand Ted Cruz. There’s some kind of “ick” factor for me.. he seems like some kind of southern Baptist preacher or smarmy snake oil salesman.

I feel bad about “judging a book by its cover”, which I know is wrong - but there is a practical side to why I was so against him in 2016 during the primaries:

I know a lot of other people will see the same “icky” thing I’m seeing - so I just can’t imagine him winning a Presidential election.

He seems like he makes a good Senator - or may even make a good as a SC Justice.
