The House GOP’s defense against hardliners is about to get weaker

House Republicans are facing a growing exodus of experienced and talented members that adds up to an alarming political maturity drain. A growing number of their well-respected members are fleeing Congress as the conference pulls further to the right, and the departures are starting to spark worries about a further erosion of GOP lawmakers' appetite for the basic tasks of governing. After a brutal year of their party's shaky stewardship of the House, 21 House GOP lawmakers have already announced their plans to retire at year's end — including five committee chairs. Many of the departing members share a common trait: They’re part of a loose coalition of governing-minded Republicans who are still willing to generally back leadership, support bipartisan deals and even defy former President Donald Trump at times. And while some Republicans have cited personal or health reasons for leaving office, others in the group are blunt as they lament their party’s inflated expectations for what’s achievable when the GOP controls just one half of one branch of the government.

The Republicans in Congress should try to send to the states a constitutional amendment that would cap middle class property taxation, such as:

Property tax on any residential property of less than 2799 square feet of finished space shall be no higher the 2019 dollar amount on the property, or for a newer or since resold property what a similar property in the same area would have been taxed at for 2019 if it lacked owner specific tax breaks, increased by 3% per calendar year since 2019 and by any percentage increase to its finished space.

Fighting for such a property tax cap now in Congress would add the electors of several deep blue states to Trump’s total and make Congress turn deep red come November.

Even devoted Democratic voters do not want to get taxed out of their homes.

"A growing number of their well-respected firmly-controlled by the left members are fleeing Congress..."

Which is an altogether good development.

A note to Jordain Carney and Olivia Beavers:

In 10 months justice and retribution begins. You cretins are going to receive pain, lots and lots of pain. You can go ahead and make your escape plans to Canada now but you won’t succeed. Your days (along with the entire cast of troglodytes at Politico) are numbered. /spit

I’m beginning to think only corporations should pay tax: share taxes, sales privilege tax, income tax, payroll tax, real property tax, inventory tax, etc.

One Republican congressman was bought off with a $400,000/year job as university president.

We are about two people away from following the path of 1917 Russia.

I fear our hate-filled leftists more than I fear Putin.

“Most people interpret it as: America does nothing for anyone anywhere until everything in America is fixed, and even then why should we? Its their problem.”

In many cases they’re right. In fact I’d say in most cases. Are there areas of the world that require our attention? Absolutely. But we have gone so far that it’s now become a threat to our way of life. We can not afford to be the worlds policeman anymore. Especially not for a bunch of ingrates who are going to hate us no matter what we do.

Add to that the fact that we are broke, in debt up to our eyeballs and are undergoing an absolute invasion of third world trash who are only coming here for “free” stuff. We are being destroyed from within and it’s way past time for us to put our own house in order.

In other words, getting rid of the dead wood. I pray to God it's actually happening.

The threat comes from Democrat policies and huge spending - but that does not mean we abandon even more allies and friends around the world.

That policy of repeated abandonment, only benefits Russia, China, and Iran. Despite of the fixation on money, there are other considerations that make a country great or make it a pariah.

Policy cannot be fixed by abandoning others. Fixing policy is an internal political process.

House becoming increasingly dominated by isolationists - a policy that never work and never will work. And in fact, always make the problems worse with its attendants: misery and death.

____________________________________________________________

We’re a gazillion miles from isolationist.

But just for funsies, when has the US NOT been expanding? It has been acquiring land directly (through expansion) or indirectly (through puppet-governments and military bases) since its inception. It’s gone on for an amazingly long time...not unlike Rome.

Unless the rest of the world is just going to let the US either take them over or directly dictate their policies, then pushback was inevitably gonna manifest. We may just be looking at that now. I’m not sure if present or future generations are gonna be easily talked into being cannon-fodder for elites.

There are two possible futures:
1. Democrats have all the power and almost all of the money
2. Democrats have almost all the power and we get to keep our money and property because we fought for and got constitutional protections for middle class income and property.

“Russia, China, and Iran”

China is the #1 industrial power on Earth. Our GDP consists of such things as ~$1500/hour lawyers and $400,000+/patient/year medical potions the PPACA was created to ensure payment for.

Russia will fight for Russians living in Ukraine. Lines on maps mean less to Putin than the long-term well-being of Russian ethnics in Ukraine and in other “republics” once part of the USSR.

Iran will get nuclear weapons and missiles. Obama failed to do the right thing. If basketcase North Korea can build nuclear bombs and ICBMs, smart Iranians can to.

Corporations don't "pay" any taxes. Their shareholders, employees, and customers pay what are labled as "corporate" taxes.
