Nikki Haley says Michigan was ‘a bright light’ for Republicans before Trump’s rise (only Republican to win Michigan since 1992)

Facing almost certain defeat in Tuesday’s Republican presidential primary, Nikki Haley said Trump’s ascendance has come at the expense of Republicans in Michigan.

“Michigan was a bright light. (Republicans) were winning races up and down the ticket. They had passed a ‘right-to-work’ law. Everything was great,” Haley told reporters at a Grand Rapids event on Monday. “And once Donald Trump came in 2016, they’ve now lost the governor’s race, the governor’s mansion, they lost the state House, they lost the State Senate. The party is completely divided, and that’s not just Michigan.”

Haley came to Michigan following a crushing defeat in South Carolina, her home state where she served as governor for six years. Former President Donald Trump took 60% of the GOP primary vote to Haley’s 40%. She is expected to perform even worse in Michigan. The most recent polling average from RealClearPolitics has Haley more than 50 percentage points behind Trump among Republican primary voters here. Speaking to a crowd of several hundred in the Amway Grand Plaza hotel, she vowed to fight on in a primary where Trump has won every contest.

“- but then, so was Obama”

The fact that Obama had his presidential and personnal records sealed for 75 years speaks volumes.

Which is why I post this - not that I'm happy about it at all - simply an observation of what's happened for 15 years or so

It's still rather surreal - I can't believe all that we've seen so far - it's like a dystopian nightmare

I wonder how much money the DemoMarxists and China are giving her. They know if Trump is thrown in jail Trump supporters won't vote for her and Chinas #1 employee Xiden will win.

Did you watch Life, Liberty and Levin on Sunday, Peter Sweitzer? China has its hands in everything. If Trump wins, he needs to pick the right AG and start indicting these scumbags for treason.

Michigan was doing OK with a Republican House and Senate, and we had a couple of Republican governors, Engler and Snyder, but now under Gretchen Whitless and Democratically controlled House and Senate, we’re backsliding on 2A issues.

Haley’s mission is to do as much damage to Trump as possible up to Super Tuesday when Trump will lock the nomination up. The goal is to tarnish him as much as possible in order to swing the idiot voters who never pay attention to what is going on until the last two months before the elections. The media coverage of Trump will make the last eight years seem tame in comparison. Then the Dems plan will go into effect by Biden naming her as the VP candidate. Since she is a woman of color she replaces Harris in a wash. They Dems will say they are doing this to unite the country, they will vote for Biden knowing that Haley is far better than Harris which strengthens the ticket, the Rinos will happily vote for her, the Independents will see that she will be president shortly after Biden is pushed out with the 25th. She may retain the “R” behind her name but it will be known by all in power as a ruse to the public. The GOPe is perfectly ok with the arrangement.

She just cannot stop criticizing Trump, instead of focusing on the democrats and Biden. Sad, very sad.

She should also be targeting the weaponization and lawfare attacks of big government (FBI, DOJ, CIA, etc) against Trump and conservatives instead. Again, very sad,

"... the Independents will see that she will be president shortly after Biden is pushed out with the 25th."

Why is it that everyone automatically puts Independents into the democrats column?😡

They aren't!

I understand that BUT I do think the majority will fall for the”Unite the country” line since they see Trump as damaged goods with all the lawsuits. This happened last time around even though I strongly believe the election was stolen. I have had too much contact with Haley people that beieve this and sadly there are still too many on FOX that see Trump as ‘unelectable’. They still look at Haley as being a leader when she is far from it.

You are correct. Every comment, with the exception of yours, is Nikki hate. The fact is that her comment above and your comment about Michigan are both true. As of now there is essentially no Michigan republican party. And, yes, Trump minions Greasy Guiliani, Pillow Guy and Kraken lawyers blew it up two years ago. Hard facts for the ignorant to swallow. It may be the most important state electorally this year. Go Trump. The only thing helping is Biden not knowing what to do about Dearborn.

I wouldn't want to give a false impression. I'm guilty of spreading as much Nikki-hate as the next guy, just not in this thread.

I kind of liked Haley until her resignation as U.N. Ambassador over what Trump said about Blase Ford. That combined with her statement that if Trump ran in 24 that she would not, then she ran anyway is when my dislike of her began.

Birdbrain” is appropriate.

It’s so appropriate, I think she should take a cognitive ability test. She may not have more marbles than our President.

“Nikki Haley says Michigan was ‘a bright light’ for Republicans before Trump’s rise”

as usual, Haley is a total liar ... the split is due to nutjob Kristina Karamo being tossed out as Michigan GOP party leader but still pretending like she’s in charge ...

In early January, a group of party activists held an election to oust the former Michigan GOP chairwoman, Kristina Karamo, accusing the fervent conspiracy theorist of mismanaging the state party’s finances. They later voted to replace her with Pete Hoekstra, a former congressman and Trump’s former US ambassador to the Netherlands. On 14 February, the Republican National Committee declared their support for Hoekstra, recognizing him as the official state party chair.

Karamo has continued to claim she is the rightful chair of the party despite what the RNC says, and is forging ahead with her own plans for a party convention on Saturday near Detroit even as Hoekstra plans one in Grand Rapids, a few hours away.

“The political oligarchy within the Republican party has done everything possible to destroy me,” Karamo said in a podcast released just days after the RNC officially recognized Hoekstra’s leadership on 14 February.

Given the national party’s support for Hoekstra, it’s unlikely Karamo’s convention will carry any official weight. But the courts may have something to say about that.

On the same day voters head to the polls on Tuesday, the dueling factions will see each other in Kent county district court. Karamo’s opponents are asking a judge to determine whether she was properly removed from office, in hopes that a legal finding will push her to step down, allow them to seize control of the party’s finances and confirm that Hoekstra’s convention is the official one.

All that drama is overshadowing the primary.

“A good strong showing for Trump with a high turnout in key areas will bolster the Republican party if they can pull it off,” said Ken Kollman, a professor of political science at the University of Michigan. “But they’re riven by pretty deep splits right now.”
