Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.C.) is endorsing former President Trump for president in 2024, his office confirmed to multiple outlets.
Thune’s support marks a high-profile win for Trump, from the No. Republican in the Senate, who is seen as a serious legislator and a possible successor to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
Thune spoke with Trump by phone on Saturday night after Trump won South Carolina’s primary, Fox News reported. An account on X, formerly Twitter, run by Trump’s campaign, posted the Fox News reporting.
The Hill has reached out to Thune’s office for confirmation.
Thune has at times been critical of Trump and has broken with him on several key votes. This weekend’s endorsement only underscores Trump’s strong grip on the party.

Recollections of Fred Sanford clutching his chest crying "Elizabeth, I'm coming, this is the big one."
Nice try, Mister Thune.
Your indelible record precedes you.

Trump needs to accept the endorsements of all of the RINOs who stabbed him in the back, and then endorse other MAGA people for leadership positions and to primary these RINOs. Trump can’t forget their backstabbing. I was very disturbed that Trump brought Linda with him to his SC victory party.

FReepers have been crying for the various factions of the Republican party to unify around Trump, and now that that is happening, they’re whining that the various factions of the Republican party are unifying around Trump ...
perhaps the whiners would be happier if the RINO factions still refused to unify and thereby reduce Trump’s chances of being re-elected ...
the fact that such unification is happening so quickly this time shows that the GOP has learned some hard lessons from the past ... it also shows Trump’s power to unify the party ... with Trump, the GOP is no longer a herd of cats, but a herd of wild horses stampeding in the same direction as the leader of the pack, namely Donald J. Trump!
GO TRUMP, GO!!!

*Thune is a waste of a senate seat.*
No one stepping up to challenge him-not even a protest candidate. Same with McCarty. Look how that ended up.

Trump will be extra cautious this time, with who he let’s in his inner circle. I guarantee it!!

LOL! I thought this was from the Babylon Bee. I wonder what’s up with RINO Thune?

Trump's narcissist need to be loved out ways any conservative principles. This contributed to his downfall as president and he would likely repeat the same errors.
But, they won’t let Trump have a second term.

This is a good example of the people leading and the slimy politicians following.
We have to drag them by the nose.
That is OK.
Let the dragging commence.

It is a long way to November.
Nobody knows what will happen between now and then.
If you clutch your pearls too tightly between now and then you may injure yourself.
Lol.

Image is always most important for Trump, and he is good at crafting his image. IMHO, Trump makes a mistake in not seeking to primary RINOs who were disloyal to him. The 2020 Big Steal could have been reversed in the state legislatures controlled by Republicans, but the RINOs there wanted Trump out. With control of enough state legislatures, constitutional reform is possible through a Convention of the States, but that wasn't a priority. Without the threat of that, Trump will continue to have a problem with the RINOs in the U.S. Senate.
But, they won’t let Trump have a second term.
They may not have a choice in the matter. Senators don't decide a contingent election for POTUS. However, the RINOs will sabotage Trump's second term just as the sabotaged his first.
