Microsoft, Google, Amazon and tech peers sign pact to combat election-related misinformation
How the HELL are they going to fairly say what is or isn't misinformation WITHOUT invoking their political bias?
They can't. They will use it to electioneer for the Left.
The First amendment's guarantee of Free Speech is gone due to the Tech industry.
The Benz interview details what Trump is up against. This is the stuff of a Tom Clancy novel or John Grisham.
Interesting the media is obsessed with the death of Navalny. @Catturd had this observation:
Breaking ...
The guy who could really take down Russia and most of its leaders was just found dead in his prison cell and Russia is laughable trying to claim it was suicide.
Oh wait - that was Jeffery Epstein and that was our government.
LOL!
Nope.
The rest of the country is always picking on the South for our poverty, education, religion, conservatism and lack of industry.
However, when it comes to Alabama versus Mississippi, Mississippi is poorer, has worse education, is less conservative (due to most black=democrats % in any state) than Alabama. And the Mississippi river is just a road flowing down to New Orleans. Not one big city North until you reach Memphis.
But I do LOVE the South and my good ole neighbors in Mississippi! God Bless them!
"In a Washington Post op-ed titled “Why America Needs a Hate Speech Law,” Richard Stengel, who once edited Time, begins by recalling, “When I was a journalist, I loved Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.’s assertion that the Constitution and the First Amendment are not just about protecting ‘free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought that we hate.’”
"But a three-year stint at the State Department caused him to rethink his views. “I came to see how our First Amendment standard is an outlier,” he explained this week. “Even the most sophisticated Arab diplomats that I dealt with did not understand why the First Amendment allows someone to burn a Koran. Why, they asked me, would you ever want to protect that? It’s a fair question.”
DOUGLAS Brinkley, not DAVID.
I met David Brinkley back in the 1980s, when he hosted “This Week with David Brinkley” and he was a very nice gentleman, and not at all a Leftist.
Douglas Brinkley is not a historian, but rather a partisan Socialist Leftist posing as a professor on a campus. The DNCMedia love to have him on to put a shiny cultural veneer or their Trump hatred. And he barks like a trained seal thrown a fish.
Oops, see you posted this in # 109.
Many in the Keys are already in recession.
trikki needs to go away shes a minor drain on the party and we dont need any minor diversions right now.
I echo my concern for Trump as well we do what we can do and I am pretty sure he has good security.
BTTT
No, they will say President McGoo messed up but Trump said X.
Correct. Douglas. Early today, after seeing Karl / Tha God, I was thinking how much I miss David Brinkley, Chet, Cokie, Do you recall if that group proceeded us here ?
That crew probably preceded this thread and my FR days beginning in 2002 with the NJ senate switcheroo
“Not to interrupt...”
LOL
I bought the book. First one in a long time. Our eyes suffer the same effects of old age.
I've had my name since October 1997. Before that, I was calling myself Son Of Liberty but that name got taken by the requirement to log in. When was that? I didn't return from the states until January of 1997--that's when I started doing Free Republic, then called the Whitewater Archives. I found that through Drudge! We did cover Brinkley on This Week, but he stopped running it before that.
From Wiki:
David Brinkley's last broadcast as host of This Week was November 10, 1996, but he continued to provide short pieces of commentary for the show until September 28, 1997. He then fully retired from television.
Days before Brinkley announced his retirement from regular news coverage, Brinkley made a rare, on-air mistake during evening coverage of the 1996 United States presidential election at a moment when he thought he was on commercial break. One of his colleagues asked him what he thought of the prospects for Bill Clinton's re-election. He called Clinton "a bore" and added, "The next four years will be filled with pretty words and pretty music and a lot of goddamn nonsense!" Peter Jennings pointed out that they were still on the air. Brinkley said, "Really?! Well, I'm leaving anyway!". Brinkley would offer Clinton an apology during a one-on-one interview a week later. Brinkley's
I’d always heard it was JFK.
Never bothered to check, though.
Didn’t return *TO* the states in January 1997.
I had been overseas—Italy—Greece—UK—Germany—since 1991.
Great history ! I began lurking after one of our FR guys (Hinderaker) exposed Dan Rather’s fake Bush story in 1999 via typeset mismatch.
Lurking ended with the Torrecelli / Lautenberg switch, when I realized Ds don’t play by any rules. I joined to be able to vent.
When David Brinkley hosted the weekend show it was interesting, informative and watchable. You have taken Mr. Brinkley’s place in my book. Big TY.
Miss Brinkley and his kind very much. They served an important purpose.
The Shannons of America had no problem voting for Demented Joe whose rhetoric is unintelligible and was for a long time.
Now, if Railroads could do the same...it would be better. It would be fun to see Oak Point, Greenville and Fresh Pond Yards empty of goods.
