Democrat Senator Chris Coons of Delaware recently said that unless we send more aid to Ukraine, American troops will end up on the front lines in Russia.
This sounds like a threat. It’s a blatant example of fear-mongering that Democrats and even some Republicans have resorted to in the case of funding for Ukraine.
When did liberals become so pro-war and prone to the politics of fear?
CNBC reports:
U.S. troops will be on the front lines against Russia without further Ukraine aid, Senator Coons says
The U.S. faces the prospect of direct combat with Russia if it fails to provide continued financial and military support for forces on the ground in Ukraine, U.S. Democratic Sen. Chris Coons said Friday.
Calling for bipartisan support from the U.S. House of Representatives for a new $95 billion aid package that includes funds for Ukraine, Coons said that investment in Europe was the U.S.′ best defense against Moscow.
“In the next front against Russia, it will be Americans on the front lines,” Coons told CNBC’s Silvia Amaro at the Munich Security Conference.
“We are best off investing in the Ukrainians who are fighting bravely for their own freedom than allowing [Russian President Vladimir] Putin the opportunity to spread further chaos and violence across Europe.”
The U.S. Senate on Tuesday approved the new funding package, but it faces tough opposition from House lawmakers. Both houses of Congress need to approve the legislation before U.S. President Joe Biden can sign it into law.
Coons said he was “optimistic” the bill would be approved, albeit with “some back and forth.” Without doing so, Coons said Putin was likely to target a NATO ally next.
Here are some Twitter/X reactions.
They can't help themselves. They want to send our men and women off to another foreign war so bad they can't stand it. https://t.co/90yWneRImi

Anyone who votes to put boots on the ground in Russia should be on the front lines with them. Warmongers. https://t.co/BJNMnzKKBF

If you don’t fund this war that we’ve already sent billions of dollars to; we will send your sons and daughters to die overseas.
How much more do you think this will endear Ukraine’s fight to the American people? https://t.co/MVszmZkgqx

Do Democrats really want to run with this message? Give us funding or we’ll send your kids to war?
Of course, Senator Coons and his “special” family won’t be there. Just OUR families.
A massive money laundering operation, of course.
Better still Coons, volunteer yourself there’s a good neo-con. Must do all for the cause don’t you know.
A fascinating non-answer.
The "construction" that there can be only two positions -- pro-Zelensky, and if not, then automatically pro-Moscow -- is a debate tactic which ignores other possible stances.
One can be concerned about Ukraine without being pro-Zelensky. After all, "regime change" and "color revolutions" have been the parlance of the Democrats for decades now, and currently aimed at Putin but not also at Zelensky.
One can hold that this is a European issue, and it is incumbent on Europe to send its EU member-state troops long before any notion of sending American troops. After all the "send US troops" trope was trotted out a couple of months back already, aimed at jiggling loose more money.
Austin Warns Congress Failing to Pass Ukraine Aid ‘Very Likely’ Leads to US Troops on the Ground In Europe Messenger, 5 December 2023One can be far more concerned about the southern border of the US, which is being overrun, placing the "border" issue of Ukraine as a secondary or tertiary issue.Lloyd Austin Threatens to Deploy Troops if Ukraine Aid is Shut Down American Greatness, 6 December 2023
One can be far more concerned about the economic lunacy of the greatest debtor nation in history rapidly piling up more debt for war and much more.
Debt ClockThe latter is my great concern, a far greater concern than the Ukraine-Russia war between two non-NATO nations.$34.237 TRILLION dollars of so-called public debt. With no plans to address this issue, and Janet Yellen recently suggesting $60 TRILLION and more could be foreseen.
Propping up the political game of "more billions" for Ukraine or one is part of a "pro-Moscow party" is the argument of Democrats today. And "it will be Americans on the front lines" is a clearly stated Democrat talking point, per the quote from Coons of Delaware, the home state of Biden.
So one could ask, when did "conservatives" become pro-Democrat?
>When did “conservatives” become the pro-Moscow party?<
The better question is when did liberals become so anti-Russia. They used to love Russia. They honeymooned there. They had the Russian Reset. They gave our uranium to them. They envied the power that Putin wielded and wished Clinton or Obama could be the same. They took Russian money for their foundations. Even the son of a vice president rubbed elbows with a Russian oligarch lady.
This apparent love affair with Russia abruptly ended when Hillary had to use Russia to frame Trump. Now the left hates Russia.
This isn’t conservatives being pro-Moscow. It’s wondering why we are sending so much money to a historically corrupt country whose president declared himself president for life.
EC
And they certainly seem to have done. While squawking loudly about 1% of the Federal budget for Ukraine, they keep rubber-stamping ten or twenty times that for welfare programs, corporate and otherwise, and supports for illegal immigration. Is the sturm und drang over Ukraine just intended to distract the electorate from their main agenda? Seems to have fooled a substantial number of Freepers. The O.P. prominent among them.
That’s all I think about when his name is mentioned, the goofball smiling as his daughter pulls away from Biden.
When did Zelensky make himself president for life? I must have out for a beer when that happened.
Ukraine has the incriminating evidence on the Biden Mafia.
As long as the money from the US keeps flowing the evidence remains buried.
Biden's FBI and CIA has enough incriminating evidence on enough senators and congressmen to blackmail them into keeping the money flowing to protect the Obama Mafia.
After all - what's a couple hundred billion dollars of taxpayer money to Washington politicians?
Nothing.
They've already got their scam money tuckeed away and dumbass voters keep re-electing them no matter what they do.
apparently you aren’t understanding that the US doesn’t *have* money to send to Ukraine. We are borrowing or printing it.
The military does not habe enough cannn fodder to semnd to Russia, and it is top heavy with LGBTQ offocers who have been promoted beyond their competency due to the fact that they identify as the opposite sex.
Coons is a complete idiot, unless he wants to throw these newly vetted queer class soldiers into the meat grinder of the Ukraine/Russia front lines. That would be a step up.
“ What is it about Ukraine they are so desperate to protect.”
The U.S. dollar (BRICS).
Democrats are probably getting their usual kickbacks and Republicans are being played for fools.
We don’t have the money to play ‘Cops Of the World’. Not our circus not our monkeys....
Be careful what you wish for, Demonrat. Nuclear war would destroy the big “blue” cities. The America that would rise from the ashes would be as “red” as the Texas panhandle!
He cancelled the election in 2023 at the end of his 5 year term, citing war time. As long as we keep sending money, the war will go on and he will remain president.
Obama is jealous.
EC
Coons the bald headed freak should be the first to go to the front lines
Is Nikki Haley’s daughter going to get off social media, pick up a rifle and charge down a Russian machine gun position?
Most likely he wont attack anyone next. All more funding will do
is allow Ukraine to survive a few more months. The aid is not going to be the issue. Ukrainian cannon fodder is. They will run out of troops if Putin isnt brought to the negotiating table in a realistic manner. If the Ukraine runs out of troops trying to fight a war they cannot win, which can only continue WITH our aid- guess who fills that void?
As one of the dudes said to Tom Cruise in one of the Mission: Impossible movies, “war is good for business.”
Exactly. Coons should lead the charge.
