Ukraine says it sank Russian large landing warship in Black Sea
Reuters ^ | 2/14/2024 | Tom Balmforth and Pavel Polityuk

Ukraine destroyed a Russian landing warship off the coast of occupied Crimea in an operation with naval drones that breached the vessel's port side on Wednesday and caused it to sink, Kyiv's military spy agency and armed forces said.

There was no immediate comment from Russia, which said earlier that it had destroyed six drones in the Black Sea. The Kremlin declined to comment.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces, together with the Defence Ministry's intelligence unit, destroyed the Tsezar Kunikov large landing ship. It was in Ukraine's territorial waters near Alupka at the time of the hit," the military said on Telegram messenger.

-snip-

Ukraine's GUR military intelligence agency said the warship appeared to have been loaded when it sank and that, before the attack, it had spent some 10 days at a loading site used by the Russian military.

Reuters was able to verify the ship in the video as the Russian Black Sea Fleet's Tsezar Kunikov based on its main mast, antenna, bridge and deck. The location and date the footage was filmed could not be independently verified.

Some of the footage at the end appeared to show major damage with the vessel listing heavily to one side.

"In summary, Tsezar Kunikov received a critical breach on the port side and started sinking," the GUR agency said in a statement.

The Project 775 warship, one of Russia's newest vessels, has a crew of 87 and took part in wars in Georgia, Syria and Ukraine, GUR said in its statement.

Stop obscuring the truth of the matter. The ethinic Russian regions don’t want to be part of Ukraine because the Ukrainians are nazis and treat the Russian speaking population thusly.

The “truth of the matter” is that when invading Russian Nazis occupy Ukrainian lands the first thing they do is tear down Ukrainian language signs and replace them with Russian language ones.

Demeaning Ukrainians as “Nazi” simply for wanting a national identity separate from Russia is exactly what Marxist Democrats do to us when they call us “White Supramacists” for wanting a secure border, etc. Conservatives use to be better than that. Apparently, no more.

Meanwhile, on the actual battlefield, Ukraine is feeding what left of its best troops into the Russian meat grinderm in Avdeevka:

GENERAL SYRSKY TAKES CHARGE AND UKRAINE CONTINUES TO FALTER

The leadership shakeup in Kiev, with President Zelensky giving he boot to General Zaluzhny and promoting General Syrsky to the top military slot, has not changed the dire situation the Ukrainian Army faces on the Donbass front. If anything, it has made matters worse. General Syrsky, who is known derisively among Ukrainian troops as “The Butcher,” seems intent on living up to his reputation as a leader who is careless with the lives of this troops.

###

Biden’s fruitless effort to wrangle an additional $61 billion dollars out of Congress to send to Ukraine will not change Ukraine’s tactical disadvantage. Ukraine lacks the critical resource required to sustain the war — a well-trained cadre of soldiers. Russia’s successful strike on Selidovo is a brutal reminder that anytime Ukraine assembles a large group of soldiers (or trainees) they can be hit and decimated.

Syrsky is reported to be sending more of his best troops towards Avdeevka. If true, he is living up to his reputation as “General Butcher.” Those soldiers are likely to chewed up by the Russian grinding offensive. And the death of every experienced soldier puts Ukraine further into a hole that it cannot climb out of.

Drones have been an absolute game changer.

During WWII the U.S. suffered from faulty torpedos mainly because they were just too expensive to actually test. I imagine our current torpedos are even more expensive but have been actually tested and work.

That said, sea drones based on jet skis seem to sink ships pretty well and are apparently possibly within the budget of a home hobbyist let alone an even poor nation. Game changer indeed.

Cesar Kunikov was one of the two large landing ships that got away earlier in the war (the other was the Novocherkassk), when their sister ship the Saratov was sunk in the Port of Berdyansk, on 24 March 2022.

They are all gone now.

Oh, then there is this, Marcus:

https://avia-pro.net/news/udar-po-poligonu-v-selidovo-obernulsya-katastroficheskimi-posledstviyami-dlya-vsu

A powerful strike by Iskander-M missiles on a military training ground in Selidovo, located on the territory of the DPR, led to large-scale destruction and significant losses among the Ukrainian military. Information about this event was disseminated by war correspondent Alexander Kots through his Telegram channel.

According to Kotz, the force of the impact was so great that the affected area was compared to the size of two football fields. The military correspondent emphasized that the chances of survival for those who were at the training ground at the time of the attack were practically zero. A special feature of the warheads used is that they are equipped with 54 fragmentation warheads, capable of firing at a height of about 10 meters above the ground and hitting infantry even in deep trenches due to the vertical direction of the fragments.

According to preliminary data, the death toll at the test site reached approximately one and a half thousand people. Ukrainian sources claim that within a few hours after the attack, trucks with the bodies of the dead were sent from the Selidovo area in the direction of Dnepropetrovsk.

An important aspect of this event is that the Ukrainian military personnel who died in Selidovo were soon to be transferred to the Avdiivka direction to support defensive actions against Russian troops. The strike on the training ground thus caused serious damage to the plans of the Ukrainian command to strengthen its positions at the front. I am sure that ethnic Russian regions don’t want to be part of Ukraine and would rather be a part of Russia. Don’t know if it is because ‘the Ukrainians are Nazis and treat them like the Nazis treated Russians. I’ve heard of no mass exterminations, burning of Russians in barns, etc. The fact is Ukrainians don’t like them very much.

There is a lot of very bad blood between Ukrainians and Russians. The Holodomor is just slipping out of living memory, but older Ukrainians leaned about it from their parents and younger ones from their grandparents. It won’t be forgotten or likely forgiven for a very long time.

Of course the Russians living in Ukraine now are no more responsible for Holodomor and the post-war Soviet punishment of Ukraine than you or I are for slavery in the 1850s.

Don’t have a solution for the problem. I just don’t think that either side is necessarily on the side of the angels in this one.

Such research is easily done when curious. I am curious about all "sides" in the worldwide mess brought to us by "leaders."

As to this website:

Domain: avia-pro.net
Registrar: 101domain GRS Limited
Registered On: 2017-12-20
Registrant Contact Country: RU
whois query for avia-pro.net
Does that complete the "research?" Not at all. The domain registrar is resident in Ireland and under the umbrella of the EU:
101domain GRS Limited
Street: 4th Floor, International House
3 Harbourmaster Place, IFSC
City: Dublin
Postal Code: D01 K8F1
Country: IE

whois quesry for 101domain GRS Limited

As the domain and related nameservers are under Irish control -- Ireland being a member-state in the EU -- that domain could be deleted in a single click. Instead, as one sees, it continues.

Additionally, as to the Boston location of the listed American office of a Russian web entity, one learns:

Main office: Two Spruce St Boston, MA, USA

Take a peak, courtesy of one of our realty websites: Two Spruce St Boston

5 bed / 5.5+bath / 6,205sqft building up on a contingency sale.

Notice how important the LOCATION of this site and operator have been to UMCRevMom, while the almost-daily posted Davydov monetized video and "marketing" scheme -- which is demonstrably in Switzerland is of little interest to her and her peanut gallery of regulars.
Denys Davydov -- location and estimate of earnings

( Note for those who don't know, "CH" is the abbreviation for Switzerland, such that SocialBlade and YouTube BOTH locate him. )

So here's an interesting thing. Why does the EU -- with all those sanctions packages publicly paraded in the press -- not simply pull the plug on the Irish-web-resident "avia-pro.net" which was mentioned? Wink. Wink. Nod. Nod.

It is the same reason that YouTube gets 45 percent of all those AdSense monetized videos which have characterized this Ukraine-Russia war between two non-NATO nations. Money. There is a fine cottage industry of people making money. Money by begging for donations. Money by promoting videos. Money by advertising which accompanies the daily "wargasms."
