Several CBS News reporters were caught up in layoffs at Paramount Global that claimed 800 jobs, including one who is embroiled in a high-stakes First Amendment fight — and another who has reportedly weathered HR probes over his workplace behavior, The Post has learned.

Catherine Herridge — an award-winning senior correspondent whose First Amendment case is being closely watched by journalists nationwide — was among the hundreds of employees at CBS parent Paramount who got pink slips on Tuesday, sources told The Post.

Part of this is the long rolling collapse of the income stream for news media. Most of that is the loss of advertising revenue. Its been clear for a long time that traditional advertising is ineffective, as a pure business proposition.

For a long time that was masked by major advertisers and corporate owners effectively subsidizing the MSM for political reasons.

CNN is the clearest case of that. Its been a telling fact that now CNN is retrenching its international operations. CNN is still the number one US international news source for the rest of the world. Its the principal way other countries get their news about the US. Consider the implications of THAT. International advertisers wanted to be on CNN, for the prestige.

"I think tech has fired many as well."

Maybe the techies can learn to be journalists and the former journalists can ... learn ... to ... code? :)

That is true. There is still ongoing retrenchment in tech.

I think plumbers have most important job

It's up there with car mechanics, linemen, and heart surgeons, oh, and harpsichordist/baroque ensemble conductors, but then I'm biased.

Herridge is a first class reporter who always digs for the truth and good sources. I had some interesting conversations with her via email a few years ago about some things that I knew. She was always polite, willing to listen and interested about what I had to say.

She deserves better than a pink slip IMHO.

Herridge should join Tucker Carlson.

Might be a winning move for both!

“ This is a DEI hire purging her “enemies”. ”

I thought that, too, particularly the protection of the black guy who harassed the women(although a 20 minute dressing down might be justified).

“...some suspected the layoffs were more than just cost-cutting. Sources said Herridge had clashed with CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews — a sharp-elbowed executive who was investigated in 2021 over favoritism and discriminatory hiring and management practices, as revealed by The Post.”

I hadn’t really noticed that she was gone from Fox. I liked her reporting.
Also, she made short hair on a woman look good.

I’m not sure you will ever see that but you could see multiple smaller packages like a sports or movie specific package but something different than what’s being offered today

The launch of the pay streaming service “Paramount+” was the hail Mary before reality caught up with the bean-counters in the company.
