McCain’s capture may have been the result of his foolhardy piloting of that Skyhawk bomber. After his plane had its wing shot off, he bailed out, landing into a lake. He was taken to a prison cell with broken left and right arms and leg. They tortured him to get military information.
Suddenly, McCain’s cell door burst open, and “The Bug” rushed in, saying, “Your father is a big admiral. Now we take you to the hospital.” The North Vietnamese figured out that McCain’s father, Jack, was a U.S. Naval commander. They started calling McCain “The Crown Prince.”
In the midst of a temper tantrum, Me Cain lost mental control and pressed the attack.
