Within an hour of arriving in downtown Portland to investigate the city's newly-declared 'state of emergency' over its fentanyl crisis, I am on the phone calling 911.
One of dozens of homeless drug addicts lining the sidewalks has just taken a hit from a piece of aluminum foil in open view and collapsed in a lifeless heap.
In a county where overdoses caused more than 200 deaths in 2022 alone, I fear another might be about to happen right in front of me.

Liberals. Think they know everything. Really know nothing.
STOP RESPONDING TO OD CALLS. The problem will self-solve.
Anyone over twelve years old knows that if you take drugs there’s a chance of death. If they want to kill themselves, don’t stand in their way!
Democrats. Democrats. Democrats.
Sad but true. They’re adults who continue to choose to make bad choices....that eventually end in premature death. Maybe that’s what they really want. They create their own hell and then want to escape from it. While Satan and the CCP rub their hands in glee.
The fentanyl problem would be self-correcting if they would only treat the accidental exposures. Nature will take its course with the users.
Slow response time leads to less work if they can die before arrival
Maybe I an cruel but why bother to help OD cases?
“ Democrats. Democrats. Democrats.”
Free Fentanyl for them all. I think that we should legalize abortions on demand and all the free Fentanyl for personal use that any democrat voter wants.
Moral relativism never worked in the days of the book of Judges and nothing has changed in 3,000 years, woulda thunked?
Way too many responses on this thread of either, “who cares?”, or “go ahead and die”, and “they deserve it”.
People can become drug addicted, and later turn their life around.
Mike Lindell did. And he eventually built a business that employed +1000 people.
But that can’t happen if they die of a drug overdose.
Until ALL Liberals in or near Portland are handcuffed and have a piece of duct tape over their mouth the problem of homelessness and drugs in the Portland area WILL NOT be resolved.
Limited martial law needs to be declared first to get Soro’s type prosecutors removed and replaced with common sense military prosecutors and military officers for judges.
Then, the National Guard and US Army, if necessary, REMOVE all homeless to a camp outside town staffed with as many medical and security personnel as it takes to handle the addicts and sick people in a humane, resolute and effective way. Criminals deemed sane need to be removed to State prison for at least 5 years. A NEW conservative City Council can then be appointed by the Martial Law authority to run the business affairs of the City under the Authority of Martial Law. Surge funding of the Police Department should occur immediately and the department should be under martial law authority. Normal Criminal penalties for shoplifting, spitting on the street, camping in public places, car jacking, robbery and burglary must be strictly enforced.
End of problem.
I suspect the intention was not to bring attention to a crisis, or to solve the crisis, but to get funding for a never-ending program that will help perpetuate the problem with “clean” needles and the like. A former California politician was asked about the drug crisis there. He said, we’re funding non-governmental organizations to tune of millions of dollars. The average CEO is taking home about eight-hundred thousand dollars. They have every incentive to make the crisis worse, rather than solve it. And, everyone is shocked that we’ve doubled the amount we spend every year and the problem only gets worse.
Amen
“democrats, blue state, who cares”
Red states are the top of the OD/capita list.

Maybe because they’re human beings and its in our power to help them.
Even in my rural OR area there are frequent dispatch calls for “OD” overdose. Transports common. Here, medics sometimes take 40 minutes if they’re not in the valley already.
I can’t wait to see what OR looks like with honest elections.
“But that can’t happen if they die of a drug overdose.”
True. But if they possess the strength of character to NOT abuse drugs they’ll never die of an overdose.
If you kill people off when they are at their worst / lowest ebb, they never have the chance to get themselves together, and establish the “strength of character” that you require.
The paramedics need to do a slowdown and unionize.
Much of the problem will take care of itself.
