Poland Angrily Responds to Putin's Claims About Hitler and World War II
Newsweek ^ | Feb. 9, 2024 | Aila Slisco

... The Russian president argued that Poland was to blame for Hitler's decision to invade, claiming the Warsaw "went too far" by balking at the annexation of part of its territory.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Friday that Putin was "paranoid" and called it "shocking" that Carlson "enabled" the Russian president by giving him a platform to spread his false claims and rhetoric.

Sikorski .. also noted that Hitler was joined in invading Poland by the Soviet Union, which was an ally to Nazi Germany for nearly the first two years of the war...

According to a verified translation of Putin's remarks during the Carlson interview, the Russian president claimed that Poland "forced" Hitler to invade by being "uncooperative" with Nazi demands to take territories including Polish city Gdańsk, then known as Danzig.

"[Poland] rejected Hitler's demands," Putin said. "Since [Poland] did not give up the Danzig corridor, the Poles nevertheless forced him. They got carried away and forced Hitler to start the Second World War against them first." ...

Putin's claim that Hitler had "no choice" but to invade Poland is not supported by historical evidence.

According to The National WWII Museum, Hitler set the stage for the invasion by making "it look as if the Poles had provoked the hostilities and the SS obliged by staging numerous false-flag operations and 'Polish provocations' against Germans."

The Russian president's 2022 annexation of parts of Ukraine prompted some to draw parallels with Hitler's actions during the early days of World War II.

Notably, Hitler justified Germany's ambitions to take Gdańsk/Danzig by citing the large number of pro-Nazi German speakers in the city at the time, a similar argument to Putin's claims about Russian speakers in Ukraine's Donbas region....

...russi comes from western Ukrainian people, there are no maps showing the area of Moscow being called Russia or the people there called Russians till they declared it so, and the revisionist history went full blown in “Russia”. Muskovia among others is what it was called and their early cooperation with the golden hoard is what brought them wealth and power.

Historiand say that it was Katherine the Great who stole the "Rus" name from Kyiv, to give the rude-and-crude city of Moscow some class. This involved some extensive revision of documents, but she had the power and the money.

I coined a term which I call recentism. It is a condition where someone or a cause goes only far enough back in history to support their claim.

Couple of examples. Mexico claiming parts of US. Did those parts belong to “mexico”‘from the beginning of time? No “Mexico” has claims to those lands as a result of independence from Spain. So the land should go to Spain since Spain had control of those lands from the beginning of time, no? Oh Spain got that land by taking it from the people living there prior. So the land should be given back to them because they had held that land from the beginning of time, right? No they took it from others who took it from others….

Same can be said for then”American Indians” who claim the land was taken from them, true, but whom had they taken it from and who had the ones who had the land taken from taken it from….

“Russia” or more appropriately muskova is none different

something your forgetting, in war, the victors write the history. Has it occurred to you that perhaps you don’t know everything that happened . The Jews in Warsaw certainly have a different view of history than the Poles

Telling people to shut up isn't helping.
Nobody who has heard only one side of an argument should pretend to know the truth.
Sometimes hearing two, three or more sides add a lot to the story, at least the realization that it was not as simple as it seemed at first.
It's good that we finally get to hear the other side.
Whether you believe anything Putin says or not, this how a dialogue can start.
I already believe that Western media and leaders have lied to us for a long time, mostly by omission.
Now they have a chance to fill in the glaring gaps while refuting Putin, or maybe even admit he has a point or two.
In either case, Putin is too large of an elephant in the room, it is not safe to ignore him.

I’m having trouble figuring out who is more deluded: Biden, Putin, or some of our more extreme isolationist FReepers.

I have yet to do my research on Poland and World War II so I offer no argument there...

Oh, you have to do your research first to find out if Poland actually started World War II, eh?

Why am I not surprised.

I was more “impressed” when Newsweek said, ‘..Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Friday that Putin was “paranoid” and called it “shocking” that Carlson “enabled” the Russian president by giving him a platform to spread his false claims and rhetoric.

While our whole MSM does exactly that for Biden and the Globalists....

The Ukraine is anything but a sovereign country. It went from independence straight into becoming a proxy for United States empire. The Ukraine is an appendage that has lost its freedom, its democracy, its freedom of religion and half of its population.

Wrong again.

Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine

Passed by the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic

Kyiv, July 16, 1990

I don’t know enough to say for sure.

I do know the Ukrainian people, language, and culture goes way back. And that the borders of their lands have been disputed for a long time. It makes sense that everyone wants a piece of some of the most fertile farmland in that part of the world. But I don’t know the specifics.

Even if his history was a bit skewed, I wouldn’t say he was lying. Even if wrong, I think he sincerely believed what he said.

All that said, he sure laid to rest any question of his mental competence.

It’s not completely irrelevant.

If the land was once Russian and was improperly given to the Ukraine, I can see where Russia would think they still can lay claim to it. It happens all the time around the world where there are disputes about whose the land is.
