Gun control was once 'electoral kryptonite.' Now Colorado Democrats are emboldened — and prepared to ac (barf alert)

leven years ago, Democratic state lawmakers faced protests and recalls over their passage of a high-capacity magazine ban and universal background checks for gun buyers in the wake of the Aurora and Sandy Hook mass shootings. The legislation cost two senators their seats, including the Senate president, and a third resigned.

The backlash left a scar on Democratic leaders, even as the recalled lawmakers said they had no regrets. For several years, legislators introduced few gun reform bills, and none passed.

But that timidity is now long gone — a turnaround attributable to increasing Democratic electoral dominance in Colorado and growing gun reform activism that’s been fueled by a local backdrop of mass shootings as well as grimly routine gun violence and suicides. A new cadre of Democratic lawmakers have embraced firearms policy in a big way. They’ve been spurred on by an expanding voter base that, rather than punishing them, has shown up to the Capitol to demand they do more. “There are pockets and communities that feel very strongly about Second Amendment rights,” said Rep. Steven Woodrow, a Denver Democrat. “But in terms of it being electoral kryptonite — in terms of it being an issue where … you’ve got to worry about

I guess the commie marxist rats in CO didn’t get the memo. Criminals don’t care about their laws.

Commie marxist rats aren't stupid. They're evil. The commie marxist rats know perfectly well that criminals don't care about their laws. Their "laws" are not intended to disarm criminals. Their "laws" are intended to disarm YOU.

I would posit your comment applies to most states. For instance, county sheriffs in various states with Rat legislative majorities have gone on record as not enforcing gun laws that run counter to their constitutional beliefs.

It is possible for law abiding citizens in LA, Denver etc. to find residences in parts of their states that support the Constitution. As long as an escape to safety is reasonably available, I can't see violent upheaval. However, when the Utopians decide to enforce their tyrannical laws outside of their power bases in the urban filth, the stage will be set for real trouble.

Are they Colorado Democrats or California Democrats that moved to Colorado? Colorado has suffered from the Liberal Diaspora as have many other States.

The Californians came first but we had a lot of East Coast Libs come during and after Covid. We are sunk.

Agreed. He was big on rationing gas but just for the commoners. He had big underground fuel tanks all filled up at his place in Aspen.
