US set to strike Iraq and Syria over multiple days in response to Jordan drone strike that killed three troops: Biden administration approves plans to target Iranian personnel

The United States is poised to launch strikes in Iraq and Syria against targets that include Iranian personnel and facilities, according to senior U.S. officials.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday he had made up his mind on how to respond to the drone strike in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border that killed three American soldiers and wounded more than 40.

The U.S. blamed the drone attack on Iran-backed militants.

On Thursday, CBS News reported that plans for days of strikes had been approved.

Biden's top diplomat, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, said on Monday the U.S. response 'could be multi-leveled, come in stages, and be sustained over time.'

In its report, CBS did not provide details on what a U.S. approval meant in terms of a timeline for the strikes.

The drone attack was the first deadly strike against U.S. forces since the Israel-Gaza war erupted in October, and marked an escalation in tensions that have engulfed the Middle East.

U.S. officials have to weigh how to punish Iran-backed militias without triggering a wider war. They have repeatedly said they do not want a war with Iran.

And they have pointed to Kataib Hezbollah as the group behind Sunday's drone attack.

It is considered the most powerful faction in the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a broad grouping of Iran-backed militias.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said: 'This particular attack was egregious … the attack was on the sleeping area of our base.

Why not check the serial numbers of the weapons, and, find out who it was issued to originally, then re-issue it to iran? It would save some money on logistics to start. It’s their responsibility to keep it working. And we don’t have to re-issue after that so they soon will be throwing rocks and using only russian built projectiles that the Russians have already committed to Ukraine. Two birds, one supply chain.

Oh please. It’s people like you who would want to build a US base inside Iran’s borders and then get their thong in a wad when US personnel get attacked.

We’ve got personnel all over the Middle-East. Is it really so difficult to see why many people in the world view them as bad guys?

Would it be so hard to see why Russians or Chinese personnel would be viewed negatively if they had bases in (hypothetically) puppet governments in the Caribbean, Central American, or South America?
