Up to 1,000 Florida National Guard troops will be sent to the Texas border to stop the influx of migrants, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday morning.
The soldiers will be deployed “based on Texas’ needs,” according to a press release on the Florida governor’s website.
The Florida State Guard will also be sent to Texas to support Gov. Greg Abbott’s effort to repel migrants at the border — which is the first time the group has been deployed out of state, the release noted.
These deployments are in addition to officers from the Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement who are already at the border, the office said.
The governor, 45, made the announcement standing in front of members of the Florida National Guard and an orange sign that read “Stop the Invasion” in bold, black letters.
“States have every right to defend their sovereignty and we are pleased to increase our support to Texas as the Lone Star State works to stop the invasion across the border,” DeSantis added. “Our reinforcements will help Texas to add additional barriers, including razor wire along the border. We don’t have a country if we don’t have a border,” he added.
The former Republican presidential candidate also slammed the Biden administration’s perceived inaction at the border in the wake of US Customs and Border Protection’s record 2.5 million illegal immigrant encounters in 2023.
“[President] Biden has the authority to close this border today. If he wanted to, he lacks the will to get the job done. He lacks the capacity to see the problem for what it is and to get the job done,” DeSantis said, according to Fox News Digital. ***

DeSantis is the best governor in America. Precisely the kind of leader our country could use.
He did. He’s been doing it for a few years. Quietly.
They were not intertwined. If they had been, he could have corrected their course.
I know you desperately want him to be indicted because Trump has been, but there’s no there there.
Because Trump and his influencers told them to. It was embarrassing and wrong.
Desantis didn’t do to well in the first 3 debates
If oyu call winning not doing well.
Now we are stuck with trump , if he doesn’t change his personality then hello to another 4 years of Biden
Unfortunately, I think it's way too late for that to do any good. He's toast, and he's going to drag a lot of great candidates (and some lousy ones) down with him.
This is true. It's not really that Trump won in 2016. Hillary lost. She's one of he few people hated more than Trump.
And Trump is one of the few hated more than Biden.
He did. National Guard. He's now sending a new unit called the Florida State Guard so Biden can't nationalize them. One step ahead.
I did want to comment on Hillary.
You do realize that every single newspaper in the country endorsed Hillary except one that endorsed Donald Trump.
(I wonder if you can name it. :-) )
The major networks spewed out anti-Trump hate 24/7 for months (and then later for years).
The notion that 2016 was easy going for then candidate Trump is off the charts cray cray.
It was a stunning upset against crazy odds by any historical standard.
This election season is going to be brutally tough—no doubt—but President Trump is now seasoned and wise.
I like his chances.
Tidbit you may not know...The DeSantis campaign paid big bucks for professional consultants. One of the big tasks those consultants had was to figure out the best way to attack Donald Trump.
They tried a wide variety of negative ads and tested them on focus groups with voters of all kinds.
Do you know what they learned?
Attacking Donald Trump with ads increased his popularity.
Why?
(1) Everybody knows who he is and can name many things they don’t like about him—whether they support him or not.
(2) Everybody knows that the mass media and both Republican and Democratic opponents have been calling President Trump every name in the book and accusing him of every crime imaginable for the past nine years.
(3) New attacks are viewed as boring, dumb, piling on, useless.
That is a much stronger position than President Trump faced going into 2016.
Don’t be shocked if he easily wins the 2024 election.
See post 67.
Because all of it had to wait until the good guys had their candidate pretty firmly lined up.

“This year’s mission will not be the first time that DeSantis has sent assets to help Texas officers respond to immigration issues. In the summer of 2021, he spent at least $1.6 million to send dozens of state law enforcement officers on a weeks-long border mission in Texas.

In support of his ally, Massie.
He was doing his job. He was signing orders, declaring at least one emergency while he was campaigning, and doing other things governors do.
That is simply not true.
I’ve seen his speeches. He’s angry and rambling. He talks about himself and his problems, not about the issues. He’s throwing out the same promises he made in 2016.
It wasn’t “poo-flinging,” with all the stuff he had coming at him, and still has coming at him. It was anti-poo defense.
When you’re right you’re right. I miss DJT’s press events.
I used to love listening to him tell how he was going to lock Hilliary up and how he wasn’t going to sign another bloated budget.
Nothing was more reassuring than seeing DJT on TV staring approvingly at Anthony Fauci. It was then I knew I had nothing to fear from COVID, as we followed China’s lockdown lead. And then the CARES checks with his name on them, well....
Now I take solace in my Trump super-hero cards that I have on an alter illuminated by a Trump prayer candle.
If the swamp doesn't assassinate him before the election.
I give politicians credit where it is due, and criticism where it is deserved.
If you don't like that, feel free to skip over my posts.
Have a nice day.
Remember what the Gipper said:
“Duck”.
Lol.
