Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley has condemned Walgreens for 'racial and economic discrimination' after closing a pharmacy in Boston.
Pressley, a member of the ultra-progressive 'Squad', said the chain was 'abandoning' low-income communities with the most recent closing in Roxbury on Wednesday.
Walgreens announced the closure of several stores nation wide due to what the company has described as 'rampant theft' in some areas.
Pressley said this decision targets areas with significant minority populations, calling for the company to reconsider their decision instead.
In a speech addressing the house, she said: 'This closure is a part of a larger trend of abandoning low-income communities like the previous closures in Mattapan and Hyde Park, both in the Massachusetts 7th.
'Why was there no community input? No adequate notice to customers? And no transition resources to prevent gaps in health care? Shame on you, Walgreens.
'Having a website with talking points about health equity and underserved communities is not enough.
'Walgreens is a multi-billion-dollar corporation that needs to put their money where their mouth is and stop divesting from Black and brown communities.'
Walgreens, which has been one of the chains hit hardest by retail theft, announced its intentions to close roughly 200 stores across the nation last year.
The Walgreens that Pressley had been referring to was the fourth one in Boston to close in a little over a year, according to Boston25 News.
In order to help ease the transition, Walgreens said they would automatically transfer patient files and prescriptions to a Walgreens one mile away.

Let’s apply this principle to her house and stuff.

I guess acting like low IQ savages has consequences.
Yes, indeed.
I feel sorry for her cancer.
Her and the rest of the “squad”.
Mr. Gumby has spoken!
The ferals done feraled their way out of another place to rob into oblivion.
Put the bass turds in jail and you will get less robberies.
Doesn’t matter the color of the perp but if the melanin fits...
Correct me if im wrong but when using this statement about community input she , honestly, is , imo stupid and/ or misled about serving her constituents in her HOME STATE.
Why? she is taking a very local issue and and attempting to raise this to a federal level. Imo it is NOT on the fed level.
Its for her on her local and state level and to take it up with Walgreen’ s Corporate.
Imo this problem frequently happens with these new soc jus, dei eating, im here for you , nobody is gonna’ shut me up at this level, squad soup.
They just dont understand their job and dont understand the 3 branches of govt
😅👍💯
These people are INSANE, they are lucky those businesses EVEN TRIED to make things work in these areas if the communities have NO RESPECT for the businesses there SCREW THEM!!
You are exactly right. This seems to be some sort of low IQ deflection tactic.
The “community” is directly to blame whether it be the criminals or those who vote for elected officials that are OK with not prosecuting criminals.
Let this hatemongering fascist psycho move in where the store is. She’d be out in 60 seconds.
HOW many hours of shoplifting video is available for her to watch???
THEY WILL STEAL THE BUS
Will we see laws prohibiting store closing?
What a good little Marxist she is.
There is an easy cure for that, Ayanna; have your people who inhabit those neighborhoods behave in a civilized manner. Have them turn in those who engage in criminal activity.
If people can’t take care of nice things, then they can’t have them. I feel for the elderly and handicapped that will not have an easier access to medical support.
