Trump has committed to that strategy for the last 8 years and it’s paid off. He now has an army of supporters who’ve seen this enough times to not fall for it, and that comes from him fighting them every time they hit him. In this election he has the potential to add millions of new supporters - Biden voters suffering from buyer’s remorse, Blacks, Hispanics, and even some big city liberals who are having to directly deal with the illegal alien crisis. He needs to win them over by following the same strategy he did with the rest of us - counter the left’s every lie and expose their dishonesty. We’ve already started to see this strategy yield dividends with these new voter groups. His indictments have actually helped him with the Black community in particular.
Trump worked hard to neutralize the tactics of the left, which had been so successful in the past. You don’t throw that away by switching to prevent defense at this point in the game.

However, his actions keep it in the news and now MSM is talking about how Trump lost not just one but two trials by jury. He gave the media more talking points to use against him.
