Israel was finally able to depart Egypt because they could leave with their Joe.
Nobody but nobody could leave Egypt without Joe. There's even a tradition about how the Egyptians Sanka Joe in de Nile so that Israel would remain stuck there, unable to get up and go, and that Egypt would be blessed on account of Joe's presence.
