Ron DeSantis is seeking an 'off-ramp' from his 2024 campaign, according to reports, following a disappointing performance in Iowa - buoyed by the promise from Trump supporters to back him in 2028.
Speaking on Tuesday in South Carolina, DeSantis said that Trump voters in Iowa had told him they would support him in four years.
'They were coming up to me saying, "We want you in 2028, we love you, man," he said.
He told a similar story on NBC News.
Andrew Romeo, the DeSantis campaign's communications director, said DeSantis was in the race 'for the long haul,' through South Carolina and beyond.

Said "bloviating geriatric circus clown" saving "meatball" from a humiliating defeat to a down-low jive meth addict, who nearly beat DeSantis anyway...but you do you, droop.
My goodness. It didn’t have to be this way!!! I live in SW FL and he was great when Ian hit.
Today I wouldn’t give him my vote for any job. He blew it. He blew all his good will, all his political capital. And he believes our memories will evaporate in 4 years and none of today’s choices will matter. NO. Hell no. And this applies to all UNI PARTY RINOS.
I was invited to join the GOP in my area. Told them no. I will remain an independent voter until the GOP rank and file decide to ACTIVELY RID THE PARTY OF ITS PROBLEMS. Only then will I join and get involved. Because as long as the rank-and-file membership are OK and do nothing about their RINO problem, it’s fruitless.
” ...but the majority of GOP primary voters instead belittled him as “meatball” and decided to throw their lot behind a bloviating geriatric circus clown.
We deserve every defeat that awaits us. “
When you start blaming the voters instead of respecting their judgement and trying to understand it....
Yes it’s tragic actually. Ron was great, a daily example of what a good Conservative Governor can do. He had a near lock on 28 no matter how 24 played out and he threw it away.
Polling >>>> anecdotal jibbah-jabber, beagle. Trump's lead is MoE unchanged or improved with the addition of RFKJr to the polling schema.
Your assertion that "half" of "DeSantis voices" are "planning to vote for RFKJr" is only possible if Ron's actual "voices" support is sooo minimal as to not impact national polling in any measurable way. Which, is probably accurate. L O F L.
Unlike you, a lot of people don’t use polls to decide who they are going to vote for. They have principles, and use those to determine who they are voting for.
While the phony vaccine and gain of function support by Trump is my own personal main issue, and therefore one of he main reasons I support DeSantis, it’s not enough to get me to support RFK Jr over Trump. But millions of people have vaccine injuries, or have family members who do (both in my case), and see gain of function as more dangerous to the world than nuclear weapons, and therefore it some people’s minds it trumps ALL issues. They see that more important than some newspaper poll blowing in the wind.
Shot your wad too soon DeSantis. I’d vote for Stafanic before you.
That's a silly statement. Even if you're a Trump supporter, the whole thing is not a coronation. Therefore, anyone can run against Trump.
We're not like the Democrats.
Figures you would deflect and mis-direct attention from your behavior....
For reference, the chain of post where he says Trump supporters don’t deny Trump is considering haley...
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/4205351/posts?page=49#49
If people play the game of ‘not denied’.....
“police haven’t denied Golden Eagle is under investigation for human trafficing of a minor”
See, that’s the game Golden Eagle plays....
Posting things as fact, that are not based on evidence.
“Not likely” is nowhere near the same as “Nikki Haley will not my VP nominee.”
It’s you who clearly is trying to mistake the facts, once again. If/when Trump ever says Haley is not in any way ever going to be his VP candidate, I will then say it she’s probably off the table. But he won’t, he refused to rule her out again just yesterday.
It’s quite clear at this point your problem is with Trump, not me. I’m just repeatedly pointing you to his own words.
Blame the candidate that ran a terrible campaign.
Ron DeSantis.
I will never vote for him. He’s disqualified now.
DeSantis should have come out fighting…for Trump. He is (was?) viewed favorably by MAGA conservatives. I don’t see how anyone can be so blind as to see what happened to Trump, see what IS happening to Trump, then join the bandwagon attacking him. It should go without saying that whatever the Swamp is doing to Trump they will do to anyone else who attempts to drain the swamp, so DeSantis should have joined the fight to defend Trump. I think he can still come back from this, but he needs to step out soon and get enthusiastically behind MAGA.
I promise *NOT* to ever vote for Meatball the butthole
You can take that to the bank!
Agree if he would have backed Trump and not run he may have had a shot at the big time arena later.
22nd Amendment...if Trump wins this year, a write-in for him won’t be helpful.
I don't doubt DeSantis is a conservative, only that it's non-negotiable to him. He signed up to be the governor and to govern as a conservative...until something else was more important. Was that an opportunity to be a conservative president, or an opportunity to be simply a president, that overrode his promise? If he became president would he alter course for some expedient purpose? Switching horses was not a good look. Moreover, he's not an appealing candidate and if he can't campaign well in the primary he's unlikely to improve by November.
” I think he can still come back from this, but he needs to step out soon and get enthusiastically behind MAGA.”
Good point.
On reflection I think DeSantis still has an opportunity here—but he has to show real courage and take a real risk.
He still can stand up for Florida J6 prisoners—even after the campaign is over.
I can even give him some words for his withdrawal speech that can begin a new life for him—as the hero instead of the punch line of jokes:
“This chapter of my life has come to an end. I am ending this campaign and beginning another one.
I want to talk about the next chapter of my life. As governor of Florida I am going to stand up for the political prisoners rotting in Federal prison due to the insane and vicious persecution by Democratic Federal prosecutors and judges and juries.
I am going to name the Florida citizens who are the January 6 political prisoners. I am going to take up their cause and I am going to ask the Florida legislature to join me in this fight. As a state we are going to work with attorneys to file appeals for each and every Florida resident affected by this grotesque injustice. In addition we will launch a public relations effort to publicize each individual case so that everyone in America and around the world understands their plight.
This injustice will not stand—I will make their cause my cause—and we will prevail because we believe in justice in America.....”
The door is still open for Ron.
Can he reach deep within himself to muster the courage to go through it?
(There is a poster here with the perfect tagline for this situation—”Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway”—John Wayne)
Sorry Jeb! clone, that opportunity sank with your viability as a 2024 candidate. Rhonda Santis will never get my vote.
I will never consider supporting the cretin. His poor campaign is 100% a reflection on him. He lacks the intellect, the talent, the political instincts, and most of all, the moral COURAGE to go up against MSN’s brutal PR machine and fight off all the democrat lawfare.
Many people have asked why didn’t DeSantis just wait until 2028? Because in 2028 he will have to compete in an open field and he doesn’t have the political chops to do that. He will lose badly. They take down Trump and he’d be the only MAGA candidate still standing and by default he’d become the nominee. At least that was the plan anyway. So this year was his only shot. He got used up and spit out the bottom of the political establishment.
He should’ve supported Trump and not been so worried about what he could get for himself.
