Prosecutors Recommend Six-Month Prison Sentence for Former Trump Adviser Peter Navarro

Federal prosecutors are recommending Peter Navarro, a former White House economic adviser to former President Donald Trump, be sentenced to six months in prison after being convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress.

Navarro was convicted in September when a Washington, DC, jury determined he “willfully failed to comply with the House January 6 Committee’s subpoena when he refused to testify before the committee and produce documents,” as Breitbart News noted at the time.

I no longer consider this government legitimate and as such I will not follow their dictates.

That’s fine, it’s hard to change the system when you are in jail, in the case of this article, Peter Navarro is a loyal and trusted advisor to Trump, he could find himself in jail for the 2024 election where his advocacy could be the most beneficial.

Instead, they gave the Democrats the middle finger, it might make people feel good but it’s not the best legal strategy IMO.

Yeah, Solzhenitsyn should be ashamed of himself.

You’re a lawyer aren’t you....only a lawyer talks like you do. You have to comply and can’t advise anyone to disobey as the terms of your Bar membership.

I, on the other hand, am with Dick the Butcher.

You don’t have to comply but you will end up in jail if you don’t comply.

What is the goal ??

Get Trump elected or get Peter Navarro off for failure to comply with a subpoena.

If the goal is to get Trump elected, then taking two of his more trusted and vocal supporters out of circulation and put them in jail most likely before the 2024 election then this was a terrible strategy.

I don’t think Bannon or Navarro will be writing a classic like The Gulag Archipelago, they are trusted advisors to Trump, they will be needed in the run up to the election, if they are in jail they won’t be much good for the good of getting Trump elected.

Red-dot import, “Hip-hop fan” who is vying with Sri Srinivasan for a SCOTUS seat that neither will ever even make the short list. These Hindoodle poojabbers get the rage the moment they step off the plane when perma-mistaken for blacks (”I’m upper-caste Brahmin, not African-American!”), and attribute it solely to white, Christian Republicans.

Nice smear of a man whose actions seem to be consistent with Solzhenitsyn's words.

For all I know, asserting the 5th might still work. If so the defendants may try that. But we are dealing with a kangaroo system (including media, which a DC jury may take seriously) which twists the meaning of the 14th amendment to its purposes. Why wouldn't the kangaroos manufacture their own meaning of the 5th? Even if SCOTUS struck down a lower court verdict or ruling, I think they would do anything to get a conviction before November. The media would claim that taking the 5th is a kind of confession.

Bannon has already been convicted and sentenced, We are dealing with a totally political system in a kangaroo court, which is all the more reason to not go that route.

Who cares are what the media thinks about taking the 5th amendment, it’s a legal maneuver that is guaranteed under in the Constitution.

Sure, the Democrats could twist the meaning of the 5th amendment, your chances of appealing that to a higher court would be much better than taking the route they did which has been denied already.

The question is, what gives you the best chance to avoid going to jail while denying the Democrats, giving them the middle finger or taking the 5th.

Bannon is in another legal tight spot later this year, remember when he backed raising private money to build the Border Wall ??? He got involved with a group that raised a few million dollars and was charged with fraud, the federal charges were wiped out when Trump pardoned him, state charges were then filed and that goes to trial this May, he’s likely to be sent away for a significant amount of time over that deal.

Too funny. I sold my Ct house to an Indian couple who worked at Yale. They demanded that I have the house professionally cleaned. My reply to them is unprintable. They treated us like well you know. I regret that I couldn’t refuse the sale. I would have done it for spite.

Obviously you didn't make it too far...

every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?
