My grandparents bought a home in Chicago when they immigrated to the States. They were Republicans but voted Dem. Why? because they were threatened if they didn’t. This is back in the 50’s.
By the 1970s, when we moved there, I voted GOP and wasn't bothered by anyone. That might have had something to do with where we lived, though.
