Trump hints at VP pick during Fox News town hall

Former President Trump on Wednesday suggested he knows who’s in the running as his vice presidential pick should he win the GOP nomination.

Trump attended a Fox News town hall in Iowa, where anchor Martha MacCallum asked who would be in contention to join him on the Republican ticket.

“Well I can’t tell you that really. I mean, I know who it’s going to be,” Trump said.

Asked if he’d be willing to consider any of the people who ran against him in the primary, Trump indicated he would.

“I’ve already started to like Christie better,” Trump quipped, a reference to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) dropping out of the primary race earlier in the day and criticizing fellow candidate Nikki Haley in the process.

NBC News reported that a Trump campaign adviser clarified that nothing is finalized in terms of a vice presidential pick.

Trump is the dominant frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, maintaining a comfortable lead in national and state-level polling dating back to when he announced his candidacy in November 2022.

Polling averages from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ show Trump leading his GOP rivals by 53 percentage points in national surveys, by 36 points in Iowa and by 11 points in New Hampshire.

Trump has largely been mum about who he might choose as a running mate, though he has named South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) as an option he’d consider. The former president is not expected to pick his previous running mate and vice president, Mike Pence, for another campaign.

Trump allies have pushed for a female running mate, with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) and Haley among others mentioned.

My thoughts as well, he could use a little vindictiveness. He let HRC off the hook and the rats saw it as weakness and went scorched earth on him.

Whoever it is, regardless of how many people here may have trashed them as RINOs and sworn to never vote for them, within minutes everyone will be declaring how perfect the person is for the job and swooning over what a genius Trump is for picking them…

I’ve read that the party chooses the running mate, not the potus candidate. Do you know if that’s true?

It's a formality. The convention votes on the VP nominee, but always defers to the nominee's wishes. Sometimes there are one or two holdout kooks who try to vote for someone else, but the motion usually comes down to a voice vote or a vote by acclimation.

Here’s an off-the-wall possibility: John Fetterman.

except for me ... I will never vote for Haley under any circumstances whatsoever. I am not alone. There are millions of us.

She is the only person on earth that can turn the south blue.

Ben Carson brings very little political help IMHO. but I love him. If one thinks Trump Jr. is running in ‘28 then Carson could make sense, and he would probably help with the black vote.

I think after the treachery of Judas Pence, Trump may go with someone who has proved his loyalty to him. That's why Trump will never pick a RINO snake again. Carson also complements Trump in that they are opposite personalities. Carson is very understated, in contrast to Trump's over the top rhetoric. I think that works, as well as adding to Trump's appeal to black voters, especially in urban areas.

I honestly think it will be Tim Scott. He already said he was wanting to go to the inner cities and churches to point out how badly the Democrats have failed the black communities and to give Trump/Scott ticket a chance.

I do hope Trump doesn’t take any House Republicans unless they’re in the safest of districts. Also, the more conservative they are the better for us they stay in the House and fight the Uniparty.

I agree, but Trump needs to pick someone who can win the 2028 and 2032 elections. We don't want to see conservatism die like it did after Ronald Reagan's two terms.

Trump/Scott ticket

You may be right, but I’d much prefer a Trump/Mark Robinson ticket. Or, another great running mate would be Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt.

Going in another direction, I don’t see how Trump can NOT select a woman. Kristi Noem and Elise Stefanik seem to be the top choices right now.

My guess would be either Lee Zeldin or Elise Stefanik.

Sorry, Red. He would be a good VP, but the US Constitution requires POTUS and VPOTUS come from different states. Trump is now a Florida resident, and so is Gaetz.

I'll bet that just ticks Christie off, especially after he totally blew his endorsement hopes after his hot mic trashing of the candidates.

I’d be shocked if her picked MGT. And I think that would be a big mistake. MGT is too raw. We need a Keri Lake.

I favor Kristi Noem due to her success in South Dakota. MTG is about only one that cares in House, so she is needed there, if just to be a thorn in some of lazy Rs lives!
