Ron DeSantis floats removing Biden from Florida primary ballot

CUMMING, Iowa — Florida is exploring whether it can remove President Joe Biden from its primary ballot for his response to the migration crisis after Maine's secretary of state took action against former President Donald Trump over the Jan. 6 riot at the United States Capitol, according to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

"To have one election official decide that somebody is guilty of, quote, 'insurrection,' when there has not been a criminal conviction of anybody, much less the candidate himself, that opens up Pandora's box," DeSantis told reporters Friday in Cumming, Iowa. "I'm actually looking at this in Florida now. Could we make a credible case that Biden [should be removed] because of the invasion of 8 million [migrants]?"

DeSantis underscored that he was against "tit-for-tat" political reactions but that he was also against "fighting with one hand tied behind your back" after the Colorado Supreme Court removed Trump from its state's primary ballot.

"Whatever the rules are applied to us, we're going to fight back and apply the rules the other way," he said. "I do think the U.S. Supreme Court is going to have to take the case. I do think they're going to have to rein this in because I just think, if you look at it, it just becomes too different."

When asked by reporters what he would have done differently on Jan. 6, 2021, DeSantis joked that he would "have won the election, and it would never been an issue." He argued Trump exacerbated the problem by supporting the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, which, in part, helped people vote by mail.

"Republican voters should think about this," the governor said. "I know it's a big issue that the media likes to talk about; the Left likes to talk about it: [If] Trump's the candidate, 2024 is going to focus on his legal issues, criminal trials, Jan. 6, and really all these things from the past, and that's going to subsume everything."

"That is not the way Republicans drive a good message to be able to get a majority of the Electoral College, win the Congress, and then win the Senate," he added. "Trump would be spiking the football if someone else got taken off the ballot; Trump would be willing to use this lawfare against other people. That's just a fact."

Voters additionally asked DeSantis questions about Jan. 6 before this Saturday's third anniversary, with the governor describing it as a Trump-encouraged demonstration that "devolved into a riot." He told the crowd that the former president's allies tried to weaponize the government against him by filing "a bogus ethics complaint with the Florida Election Commission."

"They actually asked to have me removed from office as governor," he said. "So, if any of his competitors had been taken off the ballot, Trump would be spiking the football; let's just be clear about this."

Don’t “float the idea” Do it!

Otherwise, you’re just like all the rest of the milque-toast GOP saying things for effect, but never doing anything of importance!

Agreed. It’s an echo chamber of like 5 people who are obsessed with attacking DeSantis.

That's hilarious coming from the DeSanctimonious "echo chamber" that regularly spouts something dishonest about President Trump!

for what it’s worth there’s a site Geneastar....yeah right.

“Newsom is a fourth-generation San Franciscan. His father is of Irish descent, while one of his maternal great-grandfathers, Scotsman Thomas Addis, was a pioneer scientist in the field of nephrology and a professor of medicine at Stanford University. His father, William Alfred Newsom III, is a retired state appeals court justice and attorney for Getty Oil. Newsom’s parents separated when he was 2 and divorced in 1972. At age 10, Newsom moved with his mother, Tessa Thomas (Menzies) Newsom, and sister, to nearby Marin County. In May 2002, his mother died after a five-year fight with breast cancer.”

that fourth generation SFian in the blurb says a lot.

Trump would “appear” stronger if he actually won elections...

DJT won both elections. Is that our fundamental difference, or what.

81 million votes, right.

Yeah it’s crazy unless you remember Trump has changed party affiliation 5 times, he flip flops like a flounder. He isn’t a conservative. He has come out in support of Bud-Lite, Disney, flipped on abortion, Trans, BLM, now the FBI etc, etc. His refusal to debate was the final straw for me - his reasoning was that he didn’t want to sign a pledge to support the will of the Republican Party if he wasn’t the nominee, LOL. He demands absolute loyalty something he hasn’t given to any of his wives. Nope voted for him twice but the cycle of dysfunction needs to end.

The best thing to do is Biden’s security staff take him to the nearest happy farm pasture and release him.

Suppose this gets legs and Red states start removing Biden from ballots. Then what? Dems dump Biden and in walks Newsom or someone else. For them, it's a huge win.

Remove Newsom as well! Once the precedent is set that state officials can just strike willy-nilly someone from the ballot without any criminal conviction, it'll snowball and everyone will be kicking off everybody!

Ronald Reagan won 44 states to six states or 489 to 49 electoral votes the first time around then expanded the vote to 49 states to 1 or 525 to 13 electoral votes at re-election. Trump won 30 to 20 states in 2016, then lost 25 to 25 states with Biden winning 306 to Trump’s 232 electoral votes. Reagan won by uniting, Trump loses by dividing and now you think DeSantis should stick up for Trump when Trump doesn’t have the respect for him or the Republican Party to show up for a single debate. Eff Trump, he’s a loser. He would rather argue and lose to Pelosi than work within his own party to move things to the Right. Done with him.

DeSantis shouldn’t be fooling around with the primary ballot! He should remove Biden from the presidential ballot due to Biden’s insurrection in dealing with the southern border.

No, I don't hate him, but his lack of character, his lack of loyalty to President Trump, his hubris to present himself as some type of answer from on high, his choices to lie about President Trump and what he accomplished, and mostly his lining up with the Globalists, and GOP-E, the Bushes, Bolton, etc. makes me lose all respect from him.

I don't support those who get in bed with the Globalists and GOP-E, etc.. They cannot be trusted.

Oh, and that nickname DeSanctimonious . . . He earned it with that On the Eighth Day God made a fighter ad.

OK.

I respect your opinion, I don’t agree with most of it.

I’ve been watching him and I’m impressed with his battle against DEI and Disney.

We won’t convince each other I suspect but we probably agree with each other on most other things.

Just go look at Occupy Democrats on X to see how true that is.
