So literally, in Florida, there are three classes.
The politician who has to tell all
The citizen who always is forced to be online with what they own
The VIP class or public worker or retiree that can hide from public scrutiny
“I would say that’s different compared to someone serving in an unpaid, volunteer position.”
Not if it is for a government agency. Even volunteers have doors of corruption opened up for them too when they work for the government good old boy club.
Is this a Florida thing or is this a BIDEN thing ?
A Florida thing....................
But, but, tens of millions of state workers resigning en masse! What a nightmare! Where will the children get their cup of milk in the morning for their bowl of Cocoa Puffs? What about the LGBTQs and womyn of color that won’t be able to access support services?
“serving...” LOLOL!
Where is this “wave” of which “Slay” sensationally writes?
In the article, I see one guy quit.
Slay, which appears to be a low-grade reposting service, references an actual article on resignations.
In the actual article, I read about resignations in two counties. Florida has 67 counties.
2/67 isn’t a wave.
As long as it gets clicks, I guess that’s all that matters to Slay.
I get the point of it, but for a small sized city Mayor, this prevents nothing. My line for becoming corrupt was more than the entire budget of the city. How does my neighbors and friends knowing my net worth improve governance? This will encourage the people we want in office to not run. I want good, honest, successful business people on the city council. I don't want the blue haired cat lady with no money on the city council.
I want guys like the local plumber on the city council. But he is not going to do it if he has to share the knowledge of his assets.
This law only discourages talented successful people from running, and elevates low wealth morons. It also will have the perverse affect of more "campaign contributions" from the well to do to others, to do their bidding for them.
Understand. I just don't agree.
But like I said, no one person if irreplaceable. Others will take their place.
“Others will take their place.”
Exactly right. Honest others because they will know the transparency requirements they are expected to observe.
Re: 50 - I would think that people who resign due to the new requirements going into effect are also honest. They made a hopefully data-informed decision that was best for them.her
In other words, resignation does not imply dishonesty.
When I had a security clearance I had to complete very comprehensive financial disclosure forms every year. No biggie, but it was protected, not public information.
we need this on a federal level for all federal positions.
“You and I are subject to public online viewing of our real assets.”
I’m not, why are you?
Have you ever done a damn thing in public life?
You should have to do a full similar disclosure every year in order to vote.
Yep, I agree, I would not serve under those conditions.
And that's how the Left keep good people from running for public service. Why bother with public service, when you are successful in the private sector, and have to deal with all the arrows that will come after you and your family?
You are mistaken about that.
I served on my city commission, earning the princely sum of $400 per month.
At that time I had no problem with the Form 1 disclosure that was required.
I recently (not in any way connected to the new Form 6 disclosures) did not run for re-election. Then came From 6.
Full time State legislators know how crooked they themselves are and therefore crafted this expanded disclosure. It includes an accounting of everything one owned whose value exceeds $1000.
I would have to give serious thought to voluntarily filing that form or swearing to its accuracy. How much is your college class ring valued at these days? Or Grandma’s broach? The family silver?
Frankly, I feel that some state, municipal and county employees could use a disclosure or two.
Boo hoo. Living off the public’s teat means the public gets to know where else you’re getting money from and where their money goes. Who are you working for? Are you enacting laws, regulations and funding in the public’s interest or someone else’s?
Obviously the people of FL, and their elected representatives, do not believe politicians are acting in the interest of the people who pay the property taxes.
There’s a lot of development in FL and a lot of new arrivals. So, imo, it’s a Wild West -of corruption.
