The ‘Great Sort’ draws transplants pushing Florida to the right, experts say

A mass migration of Northeasterners and Midwesterners into Florida, many of them conservatives leaving Democratic states, has led to the state’s politics turning sharply to the right, experts say.

New estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau this month showed that movement is continuing, with hundreds of thousands of people leaving states such as New York, Illinois and California and moving to Florida and Texas in 2022 and 2023.

“The notion of the ‘Big Sort’ … is really proving itself,” said Matt Isbell, a Democratic elections analyst. “That’s the idea that people move based on the politics. … For a lot of retirees, places like Florida are appealing, especially if they’re already conservative.”

According to Census estimates, New York lost nearly 217,000 people to domestic migration from July 2022 to July 2023 and nearly 882,000 since April 2020. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan also lost thousands of residents in that time.

At the same time, Florida gained more than 194,000 people from other states from 2022 to 2023, the largest influx in the nation. Since April 2020, nearly 819,000 people have moved to Florida from within the U.S.

When will these jerks stop using the words, “Democratic States?”

All of the 50 States, in the Union, are “Democratic,” I hope....

SHEESH!!

A lot of people I know in NYS moved because of Democrat politics.

“Thirty years ago, all these towns were overwhelmingly white, mostly native Southerners of British Protestant backgrounds.”

I was one of them but had to get out. That part of Texas started the swirl years ago.

Frisco is full of Indians. I suspect some of the high schools here are majority Indian students.

The two villians on the big screen version that come to mind were Denny Devito’s penguin. There was some made up controversy in the media as I recall that his character with the hook nose was an antisemitic representation. Also Arnold as Mr Freeze.

If the Liberals get power, they will institute restrictions on moving, and Soviet-Style Internal Passports, to force people to stay where they are.

You remove the clean water, what’s left is sewage
Happening in all of the big cities. Democrat mayors, DA’s, and all other elected officials
Comes with government corruption, enriching themselves at the expense of the ignorant masses
That’s why they have to dumb down the education system
Starts at the top. The administration of so many colleges are in on the plan, hiring woke professors out the wazoo. Then the media folks and public school teachers who are indoctrinated are in on the corruption of our system
My family members said they took the jabs because the local media told them it was safe and necessary. I told them they went to the same journalism schools as the national talking heads.
Now one of my nieces, took all the boosters, has a massive number ot tumors throughout her body.

Indeed, like there is no such thing as the ‘democratic’ party it is the ‘democrat’ party. The left migrated to this a lifetime ago, you can occasionally find an old book with yellowed pages use this word usage. Just as the ‘republican’ party is made up of ‘republicans’ you don’t see the ‘democratic’ party made up of ‘democratics.’

From the article:

“Republicans’ voter registration advantage over Democrats in Florida has grown to nearly 700,000 this year. There were more registered Democrats than Republicans in Florida as recently as 2021.”

That is a large swing in just three years.

Colorado to Tennessee here. 99% because of politics.

There should be a waiting period before they can vote.

It was only that close because of shenanigans by democrat election officials in Palm Beach county and the greater Miami area.

Governor DeSantis corrected that problem by unceremoniously firing those involved.

As far as Had Gillum won, I shudder to think how covid would have gone here....the residents of Florida dodged a bullet to be sure.

I contribute it to devine intervention

Well, this is anecdotal, but I moved from California about a year and a half ago, and I moved to get away from the politics. There is no way I moved to north Texas from Southern California for the weather. Where I moved came down to my son moving to north Texas for work. I had been looking at St. George, Utah, because even if my kids did not leave California, I was going to. I was tired of not having a voice in politics. Being ignored by elected officials because I didn’t matter. I was also tired of dealing with vagrants everywhere I went, worrying about crime, and most of the guns in my gun safe are now illegal in California.

Reality Proof of your reply, below, shows up in my wife’s annual receipt of Christmas cards from relatives and friends with a postmark in a conservative part of Florida for over decades+.

We are in our 80’s, and we saw two groups of friends headed to Florida decades ago. They were often retired military or retiring snowbirds. Often the former snow birds had spent a couple of winters in nice Florida.

In the last decade+, we have seen former California friends and relatives moving into Florida for the climate, business opportunities and the conservative areas versus California.

Your reality post: “As I’ve mentioned several times here in the past, the people of our nation are “self-sorting” as the gap between progressive and conservatives grows wider. No one wants to be trapped behind enemy lines with people who not only despise their political views but despise them as well.

Progressives are getting pretty vocal in their opinion that conservatives do not even deserve to live. Although some will refuse to admit it, many people on both sides of the gap see a civil war in our future.”

I like the language of the original Constitution: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government . . .”

Not in my case.

We finally bailed from Sillycon Valley precisely due to the increasingly goo-goo politics there. Thanks to the Intarwebz I can work from virtually anywhere.

Moved to Red State Murrica without knowing a soul and experienced a pay raise due to lower cost of loving and much lower state taxes.

I like to tell people here that we're California Refugees, not Evangelists.

South Asians, as I was informed twenty years ago by an Indian ex-pat who grew up in Goa, want revenge for the Raj. Any white person will do as a target.
