Boxed in by a base enamored with Trump that has instinctively rallied to the former president’s defense, DeSantis has struggled for months to match the hype that followed his landslide 2022 reelection.
Ryan Tyson, DeSantis’ longtime pollster and one of his closest advisers, has privately said to multiple people that they are now at the point in the campaign where they need to “make the patient comfortable,” a phrase evoking hospice care. Others have spoken of a coming period of reputation management, both for the governor and themselves, after a slow-motion implosion of the relationship between the campaign and an allied super political action committee left even his most ardent supporters drained and demoralized.
Andrew Romeo, DeSantis’ communication director, denied the governor’s candidacy was in disarray.
DeSantis, in other words, is still hoping for a turnaround in 2024. This is the story of how he lost 2023.

What went wrong???
He got in the race.
People don’t like ungrateful back stabbers
Anyone who wants to go anywhere in politics right now has to do one thing just to get in the ring and be taken seriously.
DeSantis didn’t do it. Nor did Biden and Harris
Can’t get beyond that. Doesn’t bear any analysis
The never Trumper, Uniparty weasels’ big money bedazzled him.
Rn DeSantis is an incredibly good governor, perhaps the best this nation has ever had. But he made the fatal error of listening to his political advisors who don’t get paid if they tell him to sit it out.
Wisdom would dictate dropping out and fully supporting and endorsing Donald Trump today, regroup and start running in January 2025
Ron DeSantis
He ran for President against Trump.
Next.
The guy came across as a two-bit phony as soon as he started running a de facto presidential campaign even before he showed up for his first day of work in his second term as governor of Florida.
DeSantis should have been a strong supporter of Trump for 2024. With his outstanding record as Governor, Trump might have picked him for VP, and then he would be the obvious choice for 2028.
Even if Trump picked someone else for VP, DeSantis would have been a top-tier candidate for 2028.
This is what I don't understand about these supposedly smart candidates. They don't seem to have the sense God gave a box of rocks. Why did DeSantis think it was a good idea to trash Trump (and thus his supporters--i.e., most Republican voters)? WHY? And what does that say about his general lack of wisdom? I agree he's been a fantastic governor, so what the heck happened to him?
What went wrong?
He bought the BS the anti Trumpers pushed. And is an ungrateful back stabber.
The problem with DeSantis running in 2024 is that the talent he needed to be the front-runner was already allocated to President Trump or they were sitting out the race because of the Trump juggernaut. Nobody wants a loser candidate on their résumé.
If DeSantis had waited until 2028 he'd have had all the support his campaign would have needed.

I would say that a lot of how desantis appears to be a good governor, may be because he had the rino florida legislature propping him up and setting him up for the presidential run.
Without opposition from them, and their decision to do whatever it took to make desantis appear decisive, it created a fake persona, that broke down when desanctimonious finally had to start appearing before people.
This is why nobody likes career politicians.
Listening and hiring a bunch of Bushies and GOPe types was a big issue. Running “against” rather than with Trump also hurt. Should have/ would have …. Too late and his best bet should be ensuring he is viable in 28.
He got caught in hype and believed the BS.
DeSantis is a drone. A good administrator, but he doesn’t inspire.
DeSantus wasn’t supposed to be President in 2024.
