At the present time the US is unable to make any difference militarily in the Pacific if China decides to act. We don’t even have enough sailors to man our ships much less fight a war. China may not be perfectly prepared, but they might follow the Rumsfeld doctrine: “you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want.” In the perception of China, the U.S. has become what President Richard Nixon vowed we would never be: “a pitiful helpless giant.”
The only war we should be in is for the US and we’ve lost that one, apparently.
The other wars are all NeoCon wars for our masters. Will not participate.

Looks like Xi is getting ready to move. It will not be a “D-Day” like landing. It will be done from within. The Chinese Army will come by plane—little to no fighting or destruction. A simple bribe to the political parties in Taiwan. Another Bribe to Biden. Over in two weeks. No war, then the arrests of any who object to the new reality. The Chinese bought US Media will say almost nothing—life goes on.
China already has plenty of fifth columnists in place, in the government and industry to make their move when they get the signal.

The danger is that the NeoCons still think the USA is a military and industrial peer of China, and will launch some futile war to try and stop the Taiwan invasion.
Taiwan-China is just a civil war that is on ice. Not our concern.

The one commitment the U.S. has maintained is that the disagreement between Taiwan and Beijing is one that has to be resolved peacefully by mutual agreement and cannot be resolved by force.
The ONLY reason the CCP wants to retake Taiwan has zero to do with any inherent “national interest” of “China”. It is 100% about the political interests of the CCP.
A truly modern and democratic China would have no need or desire to take over Taiwan. They would be satisfied with extensive economic ties.
But, with the CCP, we have a near “messianic” mission to expand its political control and use “nationalist” themes that harken to a revival of old imperial China.
