The United States has announced the launch of a multinational force to protect trade in the Red Sea after attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels forced at least a dozen shipping lines to suspend operations.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Monday that Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Seychelles and the United Kingdom would be among the countries joining the 10-nation “multinational security initiative”.
“Countries that seek to uphold the foundational principle of freedom of navigation must come together to tackle the challenge posed by this non-state actor,” Austin said in a statement, describing the attacks as an issue that “demands collective action”.

No surprise that China is not on that list. But India had a large navy. And they get most of their oil from the Middle East. Will India participate?
That is a very interesting # of nations coming together.
Yet another sign of the times
Going to War for Chinese Oil.
The last time US citizens had to evacuate Yemen, they went to the Russians to get them out
Looks like Bahrain is the sole Arabian rep in this happy club.
No Saudi, no Oman, no Gulf States, no UAE ( whose oil shipping we are protecting)
No China which has a base in Djibouti
No Egypt
“non-state actor”? The franchise is acting at the behest of ISLAM.
This was Poppy’s favorite way to get our country into war.
Isn’t this the sort of thing we pay the UN to take care of?
But we pay the Houthi rebels to do what they do. Isn’t that a little weird?
Don’t do it!!!! We have to focus everything we have on Ukraine so we can save globohomo fagboy non-Christian zelensky and kill off any remaining young white Christian men under his command!!! /s
Invasions into......
-Iraq
-Afghanistan
-Libya
-Ukraine
-etc
Blockade Iran, and the Houthi attacks will stop very quickly.
But we won’t do that, because that would cause the price of oil to spike, and it’s an election year.
Working with China would give them Intel on radars and anti missile and drone technology and procedures. The small Gulf states don’t have craft with the needed technology and “legs.”. They would be a logistical burden and no help. Saudi Arabia is at war with the Houthis and would be in an offensive rather than defensive mode. Not the signal the coalition wants to send.
Hell yeah all hands on deck if it isn’t our border. Keep the straits open but shutdown rail traffic on souther border to bring more INVADERS in.
Makes sense to the _resident.
I used to like those guys Houthi and the blowfish had some good songs
You realize we are “ defending” Saudi and Gulf oil shipping without Saudi and the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman without Oman, and Red Sea/Suez Canal shipping without Egypt?
But hey
We have Canada
The only ships that will make a difference are the ones equipped with anti-missile systems able to take down drones and missiles shot by the Houthis. Will this be sufficient to open the waterway back up? I guess we’ll see if the major shippers and their insurance carriers think so.
What a load of bull. The houti situation could have been handeled on the first day it happened. All austin would need to do is tell the commander on the scene to “fuck em up and don’t let them do it again”. I’m sure any red blooded American commander would have loved to hear that and would have done a bang up job. If you’re going to war, GO TO WAR! Don’t f... around.
