South Korea is facing “extinction” and needs to embrace immigration to stave off its “demographic catastrophe”, the country’s justice minister has warned.
“When it comes to immigration policies, we have passed the stage of deliberating whether to implement them or not. Because if we don’t, we cannot escape the fate of extinction due to the demographic catastrophe,” Han Dong-hoon, told a parliamentary meeting in Seoul, reported the Korea Times.

That is extinction if they embrace immigration. They will replace their culture and values.
Best solution would be immigration from the north.
One day they are going to have to deal with thousands of Norks coming across the border when the SHTF there.
I hate that thinking. No, they’ll have to just survive without immigration. Find a better argument.
Just think of it, South Korea could be just like LA where diversity did nothing but divide the once united.
Invasion will extinct South Korea quicker.
Better they revamp their tax code to encourage more ethnic Koreans to have babies than invite foreigners who will destroy their culture.
You’re smart, Korea! Learn from the failures of the West.
Be more like Japan!!!
Great, another place to send Palestinians
The real question is why they cannot produce more people within their own country.
However they have a right to open their country to immigration if that makes sense for them.
The only immigrants South Korea should accept should be from other culturally and politically similar Asian nations - Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Mongolia. Those four, if economically integrated would be an unsurpassed rival in the region.
With a name like that, I’d think he could solve the problem by himself.
They won’t be getting them from those countries, as they have their own perilously low fertility rates. And Japanese and Koreans, well, they don’t much like each other.
So, having more kids is out of the question?
It’s extinct if it embraces immigration though
“Experts say the reasons for these demographic shifts across the region include demanding work cultures, stagnating wages, rising costs of living, changing attitudes toward marriage and gender equality, and rising disillusionment among younger generations.”

It’s really quite dire, as it happened so fast and the fertility rate took a nose dive:
“Over the last 60 years, South Korea has undergone the most rapid fertility decline in recorded human history. In 1960, the nation’s total fertility rate — the number of children, on average, that a woman has during her reproductive years — stood at just under six children per woman. In 2022, that figure was 0.78.”

They are faced with a tiny working age population supporting a larger population of elderly.
It is baloney. There will be one generation of old people who suffer and then things will rebalance out later
It’s like the rest of the industrial nations. They need to figure out how to motivate people to marry and have kids.
