Illinois government wrote into law that the taxpayer is on the hook for whatever taxes need to be gathered to reach a specific amount.
Why the voters in that state allow this and worse to occur escapes me.

I’m actually surprised you caught that, Frack (I caught it as soon as hit the “Post” button; but, of course, by that time it was too late). When the really serious stuff kicks in, Frack, make sure you have 9-1-1 on speed dial.

City, county and state taxing agencies, of which there are apparently hundreds, and these agencies took advantage of this law.
Shifting the burden of disappearing business property tax revenues to home owners is particularly odious, IMO.
My home value has gone up 185% in three years according to the tax accessor.. I lost the appeal as expected.

Oh, I agree.
I’m in kind of a unique situation here. My wife is an invalid (end-stage COPD). A physical move would literally kill her.
She’s comfortable here; her friends are here; her doctors and respiratory therapists are here. So, we’ll stay.
IL property taxes are already so high that a couple years ago my cousin from CA thought my Mom’s property tax on Mom’s quite average home in IL was “insane”, to quote my cousin.
90 plus out of 102 or so counties are “normal”. Metro Chicago and it’s scum are beyond salvation. I’m sweating everything now...increased already preposterous real estate taxes, registering semi-autos before Jan. 1 pending court decision, etc. All in all a horseshit state.
That is, unfortunately, becoming all too common.
I think there are two reasons for this gouging: (1) The voracious bastards are hungry, but their hunger is too great to be sated; (2) They want to drive as many people as possible into multi-family bee hives.
Those 90 counties may be “normal” but the property taxes in those 90 are still already “insane”, to quote my cousin from CA (see my post 57, above).
