You “hurl racial slurs” and you get free room and board from the taxpayers for many moons. Kill somebody and you get an apology and probation. America has gone back asswards.
We need to just turn NJ over to the crows and let them have the entire state.
The vast majority of the time, a threat is protected by free speech. As I outlined, it has to be a “true threat” sufficiently specific in naming the person and must be immediate to be actionable.
When you have 11 prior felony convictions, and get popped for a 12th felony, they are going to send you to prison.
From the title I was gonna say this is a ridiculous sentence for a bias crime but then I saw that he was also convicted of possessing a dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
Before crying like a baby in front of the judge, Mr. Matthews, an 11 time felon, sent threatening letters and emails to specific people.
Being that he sent letters and emails to specific people, he was clearly “sufficiently specific in naming the person.”
No, this clown engaged in a five year harassment campaign against his neighbors. There was plenty of activity, including repeated defacing of their property and threats against the family.
My son and husband would have beaten him to a pulp.
FAFO on him.
Oh, this is commie trash BS.
His sentence was for being a drug dealer. The other charges are thrown in so some commie trash TWOT can say: “See, he badmouthed an innocent black man and that is a hate crime for which he should spend years in jail!!!”
Does this mean we have to start reading the articles? :)
Then get him for making terroristic threats. THAT is actually not protected by the first amendment. “Biased intimidation” IS protected by the first amendment. Free speech includes the freedom to be an A-hole....to hurt others “feelings” to make them “feel”.....”unsafe” or any other code words the far left fascists are currently calling constitutionally protected speech which they want to censor.
“Then get him for making terroristic threats. THAT is actually not protected by the first amendment. “Biased intimidation” IS protected by the first amendment.”
Mr. Matthews, boasting a record of 12 convictions, may opt to address the aforementioned query through the appropriate channels of an appellate court.
In the foreseeable eight-year span, Mr. Matthews, a 12-time felon, retains the privilege to exercise his First Amendment rights, thereby articulating his sentiments to his neighbors within the confines of his New Jersey gated community.
“Edward Cagney Mathews, 47, will be mandated to serve four years of an eight-year sentence for pleading guilty to four counts of bias intimidation...”
He should have called for genocide of the neighbours. Then he would have been ok.
this moron had 11 felony convictions dating back from 1995.
not his first ride to the state pen.
Funny how the “bias attack” is mention more prominently in these stupid stories. The guy was facing drug charges and that was the real crime. He probably has a history too. Like when the idiot media say stuff like, “ unarmed black motorist killed by police for burned out head light” while leaving out the part he was trying to run over a cop.
A dozen felonies and the Soft on Crime types think an eight year sentence is too harsh.
one group can murder or brutally assault other groups and its just, let him out on bond for equity....
“one group can murder or brutally assault other groups and its just, let him out on bond for equity....”
He is a 12 time felon.
How many felony convictions do you think a person should be allowed before they are sent to prison?
love the fake news the harsh sentence was for drug dealing not a potty mouth.
One of the articles I think the Philly one said he will only have serve 16 months due to the 800 plus days already spend b4 trial.
