I’ve been around awhile and whilel I have seen plenty of Jewish-owned delis (fantastic ones!) in my day, I’ve never encountered anything styled an “Israeli restaurant”
Wink wink.
Ive watched plenty of episodes of Diners Drive ins and Dives they have some good Jewish deli’s in Philly
It’s not a deli in the sense as is popularly known. Vegetarian, Middle Eastern style, not Eastern European. No pastrami, chicken soup, etc.
Comedian Marty Allen (died in 2018 at age 95) said all his life he had seen Jewish people as customers in every Chinese restaurant. However he didn’t recall ever seeing some Chinese
people eating at a Jewish restaurant. Couldn’t they show up once in a while to help business?
The food in Jewish delis is mostly that derived from Eastern European immigrant Jews, i.e. corned beef and other deli. The food in Israeli restaurants is generally Sephardic/Middle Eastern type of food, starring falafel (deep fried ground chickpea balls) or variations of shish kebab or schwarma (mmmm!).
