Bodega is a catch all Spanish word for storage area, garage, shed, wine cellar, small shop, warehouse.

In the US it refers to small corner grocery stores. In Central and South America they would be called pulperias.

No wonder I had no idea.... those small shops Walmart put out of business years ago in much of the country.
