A high school in Evanston, Illinois, home of Northwestern University, has embarked on a new plan to try to get grades up for minority students: segregation. The classes, segregated by race for black and Hispanic students, are called "affinity classes," and while they are not enforced, they were offered for black and Hispanic students only.
The classes have non-white teachers and no white students are permitted in the courses. Students can decide to opt in to these courses, and many do. The Wall Street Journal reports that almost 200 students signed up for math and writing courses in 2023. The idea is that black and Hispanic students will do better in classes if they are separated from white students.
In 2021, a Chicago middle school undertook segregated field trips. Jefferson Middle School District in Chicago wanted to facilitate the camaraderie between black teachers and black students.
One student said that, in the segregated classes, she feels more confident because she doesn't feel pressure to speak for the entire black race. The courses were brought in as a way to try to bring minority students up to speed where they had been falling behind. The Evanston school board vice president said, "Our Black students are, for lack of a better word…at the bottom, consistently still. And they are being outperformed consistently. It's not good."
School districts across the US have attempted segregated classes, all of which are done voluntarily, since it is illegal to discriminate against students for their race. The law banning segregation was passed in 1964, and was called the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Concerns then were that black students were being discriminated against and being given a lesser education due to their race. T

The basic message this sends is: “Things will be so much better for you if you just get away from those evil white people.”
***a new plan to try to get grades up for minority students: segregation. ****
So, George Wallace was right after all!
I should add that the call for segregation is now coming from the “other side!”
Ha... the dems kept them stupid for so long they have to accept self-segregation in the hopes of catching up... pathetic. One day, maybe soon, they’ll realize they got played.
This school may be on to something.
Segregation sounds like a winner. Many problems solved.
“The idea is that black and Hispanic students will do better in classes if they are separated from white students.”
This has been proven correct, of course, in all black countries in Africa and all hispanic countries in Central America which lead the world in IQ and technological development.
Oh wait....
plan to try to get grades up for minority students: segregation.
If I were a black student, I would feel insulted because they are saying that black students don’t have the learning capacity of white students...
George Wallace is smiling in his grave.
“Segregation today segregation tomorrow segregation forever!”
I remember I got put in some dippy class in freshman year of college called Math for Women. I got myself out of that thing as quickly as possible.
I’d like separation even better.
Either have FULL segregation or don’t have any segregation.
In a study done in the ‘60’s they found that black boys fared better in the classroom with male black teachers, who were better at enforcing discipline. In the segregated black high school where I lived nearly all of the students graduated. If they don’t respect their teacher, they act out. Here’s a more recent study
Here is the key to educating ALL races....
“...enforcing discipline...”
Wasn’t the reason for busing in the 70’s was because black kids learn better when there are white kids around? Now they say black kids learn better without white kids.
Can White students opt for classes with no non-White students and only White teachers? Why not?
No its not, not even close. Its the same side. Our side had to send in the National Guard to break the dems segregation fantasies last time.
I spent a career working in an inner city “alternative” high school.
Minority teachers were at a premium and school districts all across the state altered their hiring requirements in order to secure additional minority teachers.
Not surprisingly, this scam didn’t pan out as they’d planned.
In addition to the very suspect qualifications most of these teachers brought with them, it was quite obvious in short order that these teachers taught a very different curriculum than that which the unenlightened, evil white teachers taught.
It simply isn’t realistic to expect two completely different courses of instruction to yield the same results.
