People are leaving Texas over rising costs, partisan politics, and a sense of disenchantment

While some homebuyers seek the American dream in Texas, many are leaving the state to find it elsewhere.

"Lifelong Texan here. I am definitely preparing an exit strategy," one anonymous user posted on a Reddit thread about leaving Texas. "From the heat to the stripping away of human rights, I'm just done."

***. "I've been in Texas most of my life, and my husband and I were always planning on retiring here (in about 5 years from now)," they wrote. "But between this intense heat, crazy politics, and cost of living, we've decided to leave for good and head to Knoxville."

While people have been moving into the Lone Star state to take advantage of its relatively affordable real-estate market, political atmosphere, and work opportunities, some of those same qualities are driving others out. Over 494,000 people left Texas between 2021 and 2022 (though the state gained a net population of 174,261.) It's a trend that could intensify as housing costs surge and the state's political landscape becomes more polarized. ***

Californians seeking more affordable homes made the Golden-to-Lone-Star-state moving route the most popular in the country between 2021 and 2022, with almost 108,000 people making the move. ***

"The property tax percentage rate is higher," Marie Bailey, a Texas-based realtor who moved from ***California, to Prosper, Texas, in 2017, previously told Business Insider. "Every time a prospective client calls me, it's one of the first things I talk about."

As Texas starts to lose its edge as an inexpensive and affordable housing choice, many locals are shifting their focus to the Midwest.

For Texans, "the Midwest has emerged as popular recently because it is just by and large the most affordable region," Hannah Jones, Realtor.com's economic research analyst, ***[said]"We're seeing this trend of buyers looking for affordability really explode” ***

This is a lying leftist. She leaving Texas because of the heat, not “crazy politics” if she’s coming to Knoxville, TN. and think Tennessee politics is different from Texas.
We may be worse(better)

Yeah, the “gunfire” from the Indian holiday a couple of weeks ago was a little concerning, not because it was gunfire, but because it was not a Texas or American holiday.

They just made up for the shortfall in local taxes by making up for it in state taxes.

Government will get their cut one way or the other.

My property taxes in mansfield went from$9500 to $8400. The other thing about property taxes in Texas is they are the primary funding source for public schools. If you want to live in a large suburban district with great schools you will pay higher property taxes. Move to a rural area and the tax rate drops dramatically, of course the schools are not as good.

Should read “in the year 2010”, I turned 65.

I wish I could edit some of my screw ups.

I lived in Texas for 30 years before I retired and had said many times I would never leave Texas. However, after my late wife died in 2010 I remarried in 2013 and she had kin folk here in Alabama. We came over here to visit and I fell in love with this area. No regrets leaving Texas.

Don’t go to Arkansas. Taxes, education, jobs, safety and demographics are horrible. The weather is horrible with just as many tornadoes as does Texas and ice storms in the winter. Partisan politics are the norm and corruption galore..think Clintons. Stay away from Arkansas by all means.

Austin is known as “Portand, Y’all”
“Crazy politics” meaning non-liberal conservatism.
Like any f those liberal democrat towns, taxes will continue t rise s that those democrats have moneyto make problems go away, as they think that is normal.

I wish all these turds planning on leaving would hurry their ass up and leave. Trouble is, in reality, the are probably letters written by Whoopi Cushion Goldbug and Cher. They’re always whining that they are leaving but they never go anywhere. They just stick around and whine their asses off all the time. These clever anonymous letter writers are just trying to make their boy Bidenskyyyyyy look bad. He’s sending all the illegals to Texas and supposedly Texans are moving out.

Isn't it odd that there are two stories about people leaving Florida and Texas published within days of each other?

Does it seem like someone is laying the foundation for Gavin Newsom to speak from during his "debate" with Ron DeSantis on Hannity later this week?

My house is appraised at $500,000 or so in Tyler. $6,800. Raw land with timber exemption is nothing. $50 on 27 acres and $400 on 187 acres.

If folks take a look at the budgets of all 50 states they will find that there isn’t a red state in the nation.

Not one.

The property tax for my residence will be over $15,000 for 2023.

Then you know that Gov. Abbott and the legislature are working on property tax reduction bills, right?

Abbott just signed a property tax reduction bill into law this past July.

Is your tax bill just the county appraised value tax or does it include the MUD portion, too?
