Speaking of second chances there are several posters here who bash Trump every chance they get, however, they are always so quick to point out that they voted for Trump TWICE! And will vote for Trump again! Sure. Sure. Then out of the other side of their mouths come the comments on trump supporters either directly or indirectly. IT IS SCRIPTED. Shall we give these uni party hacks a second chance?

Re: 116 - I thought it was obvious that no blanket pardon for people like Dominic Pezzola who I mentioned up-thread. For people just walking in the Capital, that were *let in* by LEOs and had some sort of verbal okay by LEOs, yet those people could be pardoned.

So then Trump should have pardoned anybody falsely charged between January 6th and January 20th, 2021?

Do you have a list of those people who fall into that category?

“In order to be PARDONED, YOU MUST ADMIT AND ACCEPT GUILT!”

Nonsense, the President can pardon anyone. He can even pardon those that are innocent and even declare that they are innocent.

Would have been nice had you consideration for a fellow freeper enough to let me know know when you intended to use my quote.

Was that yours? Yes, it appears it was. My apologies.

I remember when FReepers weren't so lazy to not bracket quotes within the < i> < /i> formats.

“The same way Carter issued blanket pardons for all the draft dodgers, many of whom had not been individually charged with anything.”

Those draft dodgers were known. No one knew who the J6ers were until later. Can the President just issue a pardon to any possible defendant?

I didn’t realise I was supposed to bracket original quotes. Is this a rule?

https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/71/333/

… 9. The power of pardon conferred by the Constitution upon the President is unlimited except in cases of impeachment. It extends to every offence known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment. The power is not subject to legislative control.

10. A pardon reaches the punishment prescribed for an offence and the guilt of the offender. If granted before conviction, it prevents any of the penalties and disabilities consequent upon conviction from attaching; if granted after conviction, it removes the penalties and disabilities and restores him to all his civil rights. It gives him a new credit and capacity. There is only this limitation to its operation: it does not restore offices forfeited, or property of interests vested in others in consequence of the conviction and judgment...

Name a defendant you wanted Trump to pardon before Jan. 20, 2021.

It amazes me that apparently not one person who entered the buildings at the Capital did not have the foresight to record video of LEOs giving an affirmative verbal acknowledgment that it was okay to enter. Not one person. The released tapes should shed some light on the specifics of people accessing the building.

I will also point out that several posters, myself included, posted it was a mistake to go to such a rally because things could easily get out of hand due to protestors, etc.

It was a tactical mistake for President Trump to suggest such a rally, and he made it worse by essentially washing his hands of the matter once it occurred. He failed, as I see it, in leadership at a critical time. But whatever the case, the Pardon power could have been used for non-violent / non-theft participants.

Trespass is a nonviolent crime.

People who trespassed should get charged and convicted and punished appropriately.

The problem I have is a person who was falsely charged and convicted of trespass. Those are the ones who were waved in, or who found an open door and didn't realize that they were trespassing.

And I have a problem with harsh inappropriate sentences for those people who did trespass.

Those are the real injustices and those problems didn't become apparent until after January 20th.

There was nothing Trump could have done about that.

But do know he was a target as are ALL of the pardons.

I doubt it. Political pardons might be targets, but not those are are merely friends or business associates. I think Trump also pardoned a black rapper. I doubt he's a target.

I believe the chances of Trump returning to the White House are virtually nil.

But in the highly unlikely even he does return to the White House, here's what's going to happen. And feel free to mark this post.

Trump is gonna go full libtard. Yep! You heard it here first.

I mostly agree. Trump would rule as an establishment Republican. I predict he'll...

* Push for more aid to Israel. It'll get bipartisan support, favorable media, and lots of cheering.

* Push through a modest tax cut, which he'll claim is HUGE and UNPRECEDENTED. Republicans and Corporate Democrats will support it. Progressive Democrats will accept it in return for Trump caving on some progressive legislation.

* Trump will agree to more entitlements for blacks, but he'll claim that it's actually HIS Platinum Plan for Black America, which he tricked or pressured the Democrats into passing.

* He'll support hate crime legislation to fight anti-Semitism and Islamophobia (his talking points will focus on the former, but he'll quietly also support the latter). He'll barely mention that anti-white hate even exists, maybe a few timid dog whistles.

* He might get a minor increase in budget for the border patrol (but claim it's HUGE and UNPRECEDENTED), but no deportations apart from, at best, a handful of high-profile drug dealers and criminals.

* He'll make some good court appointments. Perhaps the best part of his second term. Justice Thomas will likely be leaving in his second term, and needs a good replacement.

Government spending and inflation will continue to be problems.

Trump will not eradicate the Deep State.

Trump (or DeSantis) would slow the American Empire's decline, but not stop it. They'd both be somewhat better than a Democrat president, but I don't think there's preventing a collapse and eventual chaos. I hope it happens after I'm gone.

I never said DeSantis was perfect. He signed hate crime legislation, and supports aid for Ukraine and Israel. He is no Ron Paul (but then, neither is Trump).

You too would have issued a blanket pardon for anybody who broke the law on January 6th?

Yes.

You support people breaking windows and entering the Capitol, pushing over barricades and pushing police?

If the only way to prevent so many innocent people from going to prison was to pardon everyone, then yes.

What's inconsistent about voting for someone, yet criticizing their flaws? Over the past 35 years I also voted for both Bushes and for Dole, though I also disliked much about them, even as I voted for them.

Trump should have preemptively pardoned DeSantis because you never know what the demonrats will dig up (or create out of thin air). /s

I think its a tactic for arguments sake to show how even handed you are. In all seriousness I don’t care what you think about Trump. My point is I sure wish you trump bashers would shift the focus and actually do the constructive work necessary to fix your party.

The primary is over. Ron DeSantis, my Governor the golden candidate, that stalwart conservative, sold his political soul to the Uni Party Rinos and where has that gotten him. I will tell you where, trailing a Haley, a candidate of your party actively promoting online censorship. Hell its very unlikely Ron will carry the state in the primary! And yet you think Trump is the problem. The Uni Party Rinos rub their hands in glee.

It can be a tactic, but it also happens to be true.

And yet you think Trump is the problem.

When did I ever say that Trump was "the" problem? I don't think DeSantis is any better.

But while Trump's words and promises are much better than the GOP, Trump as he actually governed is not much different than the GOP.

I think both Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul would have made better presidents. Although, I admit, they have the advantage of never having been tested in the White House.

Yes and I saw later that you thought highly of Ron Paul. So my error or mistake!

I don’t know if this would appeal to you, but Dr Steve Turley on YouTube and also rumble has a video on the make up of Trump voting base. This to me is very enlightening as it describes myself and my spouse perfectly.

I would like to come back into the GOP eventually, however, before that happens the party will need to go through massive clean up. I am of course pointing to Uni Party Rinos.

As for my support of Donald J Trump, it is full and passionate. I more strongly support the man with each blow he endures from Never Trump, Uni Party Swamp and organized lawfare. I look forward to seeing him sworn in again and enjoying the Accomplishments of a second Administration similar to his First -— that I might add were accomplished under incredible circumstances.
