The majority of these cases are domestic squabbles over custody—total joke.
I'm sure it's a total joke to this child and her mother. /s
FWIW, about 15 years ago I had a relative who left her physically and sexually abusive husband. And it was just a “she said- he said situation” as there were many neutral 3rd party witnesses to the abuse, and he had been previously arrested and convicted of forcible rape of another woman but got out early on parole for “good behavior and time served”, served only about 5 months in jail.
Despite this, he was granted “supervised” visitation and one day didn’t return the 4-year-old to his mother after a supposedly “supervised” visitation.
He and the child were found days later, several states away at a motel. He had slit the child’s throat and then shot himself in the head and left a note saying the “bitch” had it coming.
Aren’t Amber Alerts racist? Didn’t they come up with an Ebony Alert, or some such nonsense?
When the Amber Alert system first rolled out, we were told that non-custodial family abductions wouldn't be part of the alerts since children generally aren't in danger.
But it turns out that stranger abductions are actually quite rare and they couldn't justify the cost of the alert system so they quietly began including non-custodial abductions.
