Why can Argentina count 25–30 million paper ballots in hours, while blue US swing states take DAYS with machines?

It’s quite astonishing that the United States of America, one of the most powerful nations in the world, struggles to hold streamlined elections. We’ve gone from having election results on the same night or in the early hours to prolonged counts of sketchy ballots behind closed doors, with the winner remaining unknown for days on end. And these types of rinky-dink elections with long “third world” delays are being normalized, but it’s far from normal, and we all know it. This unacceptable stark contrast was glaringly obvious during the recent presidential election in Argentina, where they efficiently tallied 25 to 30 million paper ballots within hours. Meanwhile, certain blue districts in the United States, using machine ballots, take days to count a fraction of that number. How does one reconcile this?

Only thing I would say about the 1998/2020 Elections comparison is that 1998 was not a Presidential election year, so totals drop off a LOT.

In 2022, I had a conversation with a registered voter who, after I asked who he was thinking of voting for, said:

Piton's Analysis of the AZ voter rolls found that there were 166-460k voters which were highly suspicious. These "U" voters were quite "unique" and numbered 463,000. Curiously, they all had unique surnames that were different from all other voters in the state. This is consistent with invented names. So they have no family members that share their surname:

You can read more at the link, but from the report they arrived for the election in 2000. This is why the comparison with 1998 is used. AZ registered voters increased by 24 percent for the 2000 election, and one third of them were either new or the "U" voters. The reasonable conclusion is that Bush stole AZ in 2000, and that's more obvious than the mess in FL. Social Security was discussed in the 2000 Presidential debates, and senior citizens worried about having their Social Security benefits cut are much more likely to vote for the Democrat in states, like AZ and FL, where large numbers of seniors go to retire.

I’m still suspicious of the notion that W won Florida by cheating. On the other hand, that could explain his fondness for illegal aliens and Mexico’s foreign policy (invasion), if his election was pre-ordained, meaning he need not listen to his base.

The pattern in American politics was that after eight years of relative peace and prosperity, a sitting VP would win. So Adams followed Washington's two terms, Van Buren followed Jackson's two terms. Truman, under different circumstances, followed FDR's three plus terms. None of these VP succesors had the charisma of the former presidents. Then, Nixon and Gore, both failed under similar circumstances in elections marred with allegations of fraud in key states.

I am also aware that Bush Sr. was alleged to have rigged the 1980 Iowa caucuses. On caucus night, Reagan was ahead, but then there was a computer crash, which caused the counting to stop, and Bush eventually won. The polls all had Dole beating Bush in NH in '88. Years ago I read something that Dole won everywhere the votes were hand counted, but Bush won in precincts that phoned their votes in to a central location. I've never read more about that, either proving it or disproving the claim. However, its been noted that behind every Bush win is a stolen election.

Remember this was a party run caucus, and not a government run primary election.

Short answer is we have convoluted garbage like post-election day arrival of ballots in many states, and somehow nearly all of those late votes go Democrat, along with pollworkers not being hired around the clock to continue counting through the night.

We also have provisional balloting since around the 2004 elections, which I think is the biggest culprit of the slowdowns.

There was a universal overreaction to the 2000 election and the closeness of it, and it resulted in a mad rush to make it “easier” for people to vote. So, they invented the provisional ballot and things like same-day voting and no excuse absentee voting/early voting for a month took off like a rocketship.

All of these things advantage the Dim campaigns because of the unions and the easier ability to GOTV in an urban core.
