Nate and Lisa Herr on Why They Are Voting No on Ohio’s “Issue 1”

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio Right to Life has released the story of Nate and Lisa Herr, an Ohio couple who chose life for their son, Danny, despite his fatal prenatal diagnosis.

November 7th is just 4 days away, and Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are working overtime to pass Issue 1, which would legalize painful abortion up to the very moment of birth here in Ohio. Issue 1, if it passes, will also eliminate a parent’s right to know if their underage child is considering an abortion or even sex change operation.

Even though doctors said it was unlikely Daniel would survive birth, he lived for a precious 22 hours and was able to meet his parents, and his five older siblings.

“Nate and Lisa’s unique story shares a perspective that is often overlooked,” said Peter Range, CEO of Ohio Right to Life. “Even in circumstances where a child might not survive birth or for long past being born, their life still holds infinite value. Those children are worthy of our love. Ohio must be a state that recognizes and protects life. We urge every Ohioan to vote no on Issue 1 to protect unborn lives, particularly those lives in the third trimester of pregnancy which are in danger if Issue 1 passes.”

This is a rock-hard-place decision for me. I’m pro-Life, but I’m also against gov’t intrusion into private lives. I have been guided by the philosophy that, as long as what you do in private places no external cost or burden on others, do what you want in private, but don’t thrust it on me publicly. The LBGTQ movement, to me, was a good example. However, when they started promoting their agenda in public schools, that effort crossed my line. In Issue 1, it seems to be a private decision, but it really isn’t because you might decide to impose the cost of a life on someone who can’t speak for themself.

That’s it exactly Jack. The innocent child has no choice. I will be voting NO.

I’ve learned throughout the years that doctors don’t know everything.

Life deserves a chance.

Issue 1 says parents won’t know if their minor children want to get transgender surgery.

So the school will know, doctors will know, counselors and social workers will know, Planned Parenthood will know but not the parents? That does not sound “private” that sounds very public and intrusive to me.

*****************

At an OB appointment, my cousin was told her baby was a Downs baby & she was PRESSURED STRONGLY by that doctor to abort & quickly & given very little time to consider what she would be doing. I just happened to be with her mom when she called, crying, almost hysterical. Her mom got her calmed down, slowed down, & suggested getting a 2nd opinion before making any decisions. Fortunately, she did get a 2nd opinion .... the doctor said ‘your baby is fine & NOT Downs!’. She went on to have a beautiful, healthy baby girl ... just turned 18 and a blessing to the family. I believe, with distance between that first office visit when the doc wanted her to abort, talking to family & having time to contemplate exactly what she would be doing, that even if the 2nd opinion had been Downs, she would have had the baby.
