All but 12 House Democrats voted against Johnson’s $14.3 billion aid proposal Thursday night, with most citing the Speaker’s decision to include cuts in equal amounts to IRS funding.
The legislation is also opposed by leaders of both parties in the Senate, who want a broader package including aid to Ukraine, leaving the fate of the Israel funds in question amid escalating hostilities in Gaza almost a month after Hamas’s terrorist attacks killed more than 1,400 people.
Heading into the weekend, Johnson’s Democratic critics remained furious with the decision to combine the aid to Israel — an issue that has historically enjoyed wide bipartisan support — with a highly partisan cut to one of President Biden’s pet programs.
..
Rep. Erin Houchin (R-Ind.) said Friday when asked about the Democratic criticisms. “We are in a critical fiscal calamity right now with our spending. It is a matter of national security for the United States that our fiscal house is in such poor shape, you know, we must offset spending and that’s the mechanism we chose to use.”

Johnson is doing a good job.
The stand-alone funding for Israel is smart politics by Speaker Johnson.
It’s causing deep cracks in the usual democrat shield wall of party unity, it puts Biden in a squeeze between Obama’s militant Palestinian supporters and his long time Jewish donors, and it does so in a way that cannot be hidden from public view.
There is also the added stress of the time element. Should the Senate decline to pass the 14 billion for Israel, then the entire US Senate will be branded antisemitic, with the Senate Majority Leader being a Jew.
The Squad tells Biden that the American public supports a ceasefire; it’s a big, fat LIE. The American people are horrified at the massacre and murder on October 7th in Israel, and Israel is obligated to hunt down the animals that participated in this murderous rampage, no matter how long it takes.
Let the Senate pass it and we'll talk about Ukraine etc..
You don’t know who you’re talking to, and because I don’t intend to be politically correct at all times, I’m not going to say, but the irony here is absolutely hysterical. Yes, the House can absolutely attach it to new legislation. In fact, the reason McCarthy lost his job is that the Secure the Border Act (HR2) had largely been added to the continuing budget resolution ALREADY, until McCarthy caved and gave the Democrats their no-strings attached full funding bill.
The whole strategy here is to get the Senate (and White House) to pass the Secure the Border Act. *eyeroll*
Separating appropriations bills is the best step forward in decades, and long overdue.
What are these 87,000 IRS agents going to do to justify their salaries. How many army divisions is that?
I’ve had it with the Democrats. I shun them.
He better hold firm. Nothing else comes down the line until you pass this. And this is the only deal on this you are getting.
I’m liking this guy more every day. He’s pissing off all the right people.
Screw the demon rats.
The only reason they want to fund 87,000 additional IRS aholes is to harass MAGA people and to destroy small business.
As for Ukraine, it’s nothing more than a money laundering operation for the demo craps and their Ukranian oligarchs who are robbing us blind with both hands. Enough!
Has Johnson released ALL the J6 videos yet?
Pairing Israel aid with IRS cuts
How sweet it is about time
MAybe that will be used to aid Ukraine
ONE STEP AT A TIME.
That’s what you say when you need patience to get everything done. This is a squandered opportunity.
I wonder what would happen if we tied Israel and Ukraine aid and killed the entire IRS funding package.
In what scenario is Schumer’s Senate going to pass any of those other agenda items either? I like Johnson better than McCarthy so far.
why would we want to do that?
Isn’t the IRS the Democrat’s Gestapo???
